Medical Marijuana Oral Strips Being Innovative and Effective Delivery Method – Now in Canada

Sublingual marijuana strips are the answer to your prayers! As the name suggests, this product is weed in ‘strip’ form. You place it beneath the tongue, and it interacts with the absorbent membranes, better known as the oral mucosa. If you have ever used cannabis or CBD oil, you know that rule #1 is to place the drops beneath your tongue.

“Tilray’s medical brands, Aphria, Symbios, and Tilray, are relentlessly committed to investing in patient wellness through a portfolio of new innovative product offerings, GMP-certified cultivation, and the earned trust of the medical community,” Irwin D. Simon, Tilray’s chairman and CEO stated. “The launch of the Aphria-branded medical strips is a compelling proof point in this regard, and, given the growing expansion of medical cannabis across the globe, we believe we are exceptionally well-positioned in this high-growth, high-margin market moving forward.”

Medical Marijuana Oral Strips

Each Aphria medical strip is supported by QucikStrip’s proprietary technology, and it has a thin, edible film with quickly dissolving micronized cannabinoids that are absorbed directly into the bloodstream, allowing for a fast-acting and precise dosing experience offering relief from various conditions.

The strips are now available across Canada in three different cannabis ratiosTHC 10, CBD 20:1, and THC: CBD 10:10 (coming soon). Each pack of Aphria oral strips comes with 30 individually wrapped strips for precise, single-dose delivery.

“At Aphria Medical, our goal is to be the trusted partner for patients by providing them with high-quality, precise, and efficacious medical cannabis treatment,” Blair MacNeil, president at Tilray Canada said in a statement. “Delivering on this mission means meeting patients ‘where they are,’ including those who are unable or reluctant to swallow medication or do not prefer the taste of cannabis oil.”

A Question of Bioavailability

Proponents of sublingual marijuana strips point to its relatively high bioavailability rate compared to other consumption methods. The absorption rate for oral marijuana ranges between 4% and 20%. In other words, when you use a cannabis edible containing 50mg of THC, between 2mg and 10mg is absorbed into the bloodstream.

A study by Miller et al., published in Frontiers in Pharmacology in November 2018, looked at what the body does to CBD. The researchers found that bioavailability after smoking was 31%. Vaporizing weed offers an even higher absorption rate of between 34% and 56%. As for sublingual absorption, the bioavailability rate is between 12% and 35%, depending on the study you read.

Therefore, while sublingual marijuana strips ‘only’ offer you the same bioavailability rate as smoking weed, you benefit from the rapid onset of effects and no smoke! From a medical standpoint, using a strip beneath the tongue reduces exposure to carcinogens, offers a fast and powerful impact, and is very easy to do!

Happy Sativa Saturday, Indica, and Ruderalis HEMP? – Just What is Up?

As you dive deeper into the hemp world, you may encounter terms like cannabis strains, sativa, indica, or hybrid.

There’s a lot to know about this powerful plant, and we’re here to help educate you about the ins and outs of indica vs. sativa so you can make informed decisions about what you’re consuming on your wellness journey. The reason the different strains matter is because the indica vs. sativa effects vary due to the chemical makeup of those strains. We’ll go deeper into these differences in the section below. Are you curious about which strains are right for you? Continue reading to learn more. Some of the things we’ll touch on in this article are: Indica vs. sativa: What are they?

Indica effects Sativa effects What is cannabis ruderalis? Common Indica vs Sativa strains Choosing between Indica vs Sativa edibles. When most people think of indica vs. sativa, they think indica equals couch potato and sativa means energy. This isn’t always the case, especially as everyone’s body chemistry is different. Some indicas may be uplifting for some while some sativa strains may cause anxiety. There’s no “right way” to consume the different stains. It’s all about understanding the differences between the indica vs. sativa leaf so your approach to the plant is more well-rounded. You may be surprised to know that those terms don’t actually determine the effects, and are rooted in botany — the cannabinoid makeup and terpenes are what determine the effects of the strain. While this is true, the stereotypes about these different strains exist for a reason. If you’re ready to learn more about indica vs. sativa effects, keep reading. Indica vs. Sativa: What Are They? The terms indica and sativa are used to describe the different types of cannabis plant, along with cannabis ruderalis (which we’ll talk about a little later). The hemp plant is traditionally found in different parts of Europe and Central Asia. There were geographical barriers like the Himalayan Mountains that allowed for two different populations of the hemp plant to flourish — indica vs. sativa. When referring to indica vs. sativa leaf, people often mean the kinds that have a THC content above the federal legal limits. This is a narrow view of cannabis and hemp because products ranging from cannabidiol to any other hemp-derived product also comes from a specific strain. They often just get lumped into the category of “industrial hemp.” Indica vs. sativa is a way to help organize the thousands of different strains ranging from “Hindu Kush” to Maui Wowie. Now that you know a little about the origins of these types of hemp, let’s take a look at the indica effects, sativa effects, and their differences.

Facts About Cannabis Ruderalis cannabis ruderalis plant leaf

1) There’s A Reason It’s Named Cannabis Ruderalis If Cannabis ruderalis (C. ruderalis, or just ruderalis for short) were an animal, we’d call it feral — as in, living in a wild state. For plants, however, feral doesn’t apply. Instead, botanists use the term ruderal. Ruderal refers to a plant growing on waste ground, among refuse, and in extreme environments found in colder, more elevated climates. Essentially, ruderal describes a weed that grows where it’s not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants. So it’s not the slang sense you’re used to, but the actual scientific definition of a pesky, unwanted plant. Cannabis ruderalis commonly grows near roadsides, on agricultural land that is fallow, or on other land that humans have disturbed and then left alone.

2) Grew Originally In Russia And Adjacent Areas Cannabis ruderalis predates pretty much all of the countries you’d recognize on a map — meaning it was there before man put name to place. Scientists agree, though, that ruderalis was common in what is now Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, and specifically Russia. In fact, ruderalis probably originated in Russia and then spread east, west, and south into countries such as: Mongolia China Pakistan Afghanistan Kyrgyzstan Uzbekistan Kazakhstan Ukraine Slovakia Romania And others In many of these areas, ruderalis continues to grow as a weed in competition with more domesticated cultivars such as corn, wheat, and oats. Cannabis ruderalis isn’t very common in the Western Hemisphere because, as we’ll discuss, it’s only got one or two specific uses. For that and other reasons, humans didn’t go to the trouble of planting ruderalis here in the states.

3) Related To Indicas And Sativas Botanists include ruderalis as a third type of marijuana along with its relatives Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica. That said, scientists aren’t really sure if ruderalis is a sibling or a cousin of the more common — and more widely used — varieties. In fact, they’re not even sure whether it qualifies as a species in its own right or if it’s a descendant of one of the other two. Genetically, Cannabis ruderalis falls somewhere between the indica and sativa strains, but its effects are quite different. Indica strains produce a lethargic and lazy body high rather than a head high. Because of that, indica’s benefits mostly deal with relief of conditions such as: Anxiety Stress Body pain Migraines Spasms Seizures Depression Nausea Sativa strains, on the other hand, produce an energetic head high that makes users feel more alert, creative, happy, and serene. Sativa strains are also notorious for their ability to make you hungry. As you’ll see later on in this article, Cannabis ruderalis does none of that.

4) The Smallest Of The Cannabis Plants Cannabis ruderalis is the smallest of the cannabis plants. While sativa strains grow up to 20 feet tall and indica strains grow up to six feet tall, ruderalis grows between one and two-and-a-half feet tall. Botanists attribute this small height to the fact that ruderalis needs to thrive in harsh and varied conditions, such as areas with poor soil, no shade, and exposure to winds and pests. A small, sturdy plant is much better suited to this type of environment than a tall plant. Because of its small stature, ruderalis is often referred to as dwarf cannabis or bonsai cannabis. Ruderalis produces only a few branches that contain wide, fat-bladed leaves. Ironically, the stereotypical pot leaf that has become a symbol of cannabis culture most nearly resembles the Cannabis ruderalis leaf. It’s ironic because ruderalis doesn’t get you high like sativa and indica.

5) Doesn’t Depend On Light Exposure To Flower Marijuana plants outdoors One of the most unique and valuable traits of the Cannabis ruderalis plant is that it doesn’t depend on light exposure to flower. Of course, ruderalis needs light to grow — as all plants do — but this strain doesn’t depend on the ratio of light to dark hours (the photoperiod) to switch from vegetative growth to flowering growth. Instead, the switch depends on age (i.e., number of days). Scientists call this trait autoflowering. What that means for the average grower — or the person who stumbles upon ruderalis in the wild — is that autoflowering strains don’t require varying the amount of light the plant gets the way you do with photoperiodic strains. Just to clarify, photoperiod-dependent strains (or photoperiodic for short) are your classic indica, sativa, and hybrid strains with names even the newest of noobs is probably familiar with (like Blue Dream, Sour Diesel, and Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies). These strains respond to changes in light (i.e., the length of exposure) to “know” when to produce flowers. To better explain, think about the summer and fall seasons. During the longest days of summer, an outdoor plant might get 15 hours or more of sunlight. After the summer solstice, the number of hours of daylight decreases. This is usually the “cue” for plants to begin flowering. It’s the basic growing cycle that farmers have been dealing with for 11,000 years and that you probably learned about in kindergarten (only without the big words like photoperiod-dependent). The autoflowering ruderalis strain will grow for a certain number of days and then flower regardless of the amount of light it gets (as long as it gets enough to thrive, of course).

6) Grows Fast Cannabis ruderalis grows very fast. The typical lifecycle of a ruderalis plant — from seed to flower — is as low as 10 weeks (though 12 to 14 weeks is more typical). Compare that to the much longer grow times of indica and sativa — anywhere from four to six months — and you can see why breeders value this little plant.

7) Contains Very Low THC Levels The question on most people’s minds when it comes to Cannabis ruderalis is, “How much THC does this baby have?” Unfortunately, the answer is very little. How much is very little? It helps to compare ruderalis to hemp. To qualify as hemp — which is basically just a foodstuff and an industrial product — the plant needs to contain less than 0.3% of the cannabinoid THC. Cannabis ruderalis, on the other hand, typically exhibits less than 3% THC. That small amount is not enough to produce anything akin to a body or head high like indica and sativa (which can get as high as 28 or 29%)

8) Contains Some CBD Cannabis ruderalis does contain a bit of CBD, so you can use it to experience some wonderful medicinal benefits. The beneficial effects of CBD are legion, and more are being discovered every day. Here are some things CBD can do: Promote bone growth Inhibit growth in cancer cells Kill or slow bacterial growth Reduce risk of artery blockage Treat psoriasis Prevent degeneration of nervous system Reduce blood sugar levels Aid sleep Reduce seizures and convulsions Suppress muscle spasms Relieve anxiety Lessen the severity of psychosis Reduce nausea and vomiting Stimulate appetite Reduce inflammation Decrease pain For many patients, achieving these benefits without the psychoactive effects normally associated with marijuana would be like the holy grail of medical treatment. That’s one of the reasons Cannabis ruderalis is still used by many breeders: because mixing its genes with indicas and sativas is an easy way to increase CBD count without also increasing THC count.

9) Cannabis Ruderalis Is Not The Same As Hemp A bud of cannabis ruderalis Earlier in the article, we touched on one of the main differences between Cannabis ruderalis and hemp — THC levels. But there are many more differences between Cannabis ruderalis and hemp. Hemp is a relative of the sativa and indica plants that get you high, but growers have bred it in such a way that it’s extremely low in THC (0.3%). That’s so low you won’t feel a trace of psychedelia no matter how much you take — that’s why it’s been grown legally for decades. Similarly, hemp contains very low levels of CBD (0.5 to 2.0%) and other cannabinoids, such as CBG and CBN. So why grow it? Because it’s great as a foodstuff and an industrial product. Check any health food shop, “big box” grocery store, or corner bodega and you’ll likely find hemp seeds in there somewhere. Hemp seeds are high in polyunsaturated fats (omega-3 and omega-6), vitamin E, potassium, magnesium, and vitamins B1 and B2. This makes them a healthy addition to any balanced diet. We love sprinkling them in soups, salads, and smoothies for a delicious and nutritious kick. But the benefits of hemp don’t stop with the seeds. Manufacturers use hemp in everything from shampoo to plastics to paint to rope and clothing. It’s a very versatile plant! Cannabis ruderalis, on the other hand, is not a nutritionally dense plant, nor can it be used as an industrial product like hemp. Cannabis ruderalis is really only good for its genetics and its growing properties.

10) Doesn’t Need Your Help One of the nice things about Cannabis ruderalis is that it doesn’t need a lot of help from humans. As we touched on at the beginning of this article, it’s basically a weed (in the botanical sense) that’s going to grow despite your best efforts to the contrary. It’s very much like a dandelion in that regard. Have you ever had to feed and water and care for the dandelions in your front yard? Heck no! Those suckers just grow wherever they want. In fact, they’ll grow despite what you, mother nature, and even weedkillers thrown at them. Cannabis ruderalis exhibits many of those same characteristics. In fact, that’s one of the things breeders love about the plant — it exhibits a more laissez-faire attitude than some other, more needy and hands-on, strains of cannabis. Cannabis ruderalis is hearty, resistant to disease, grows in a variety of climates, and isn’t overly picky about the soil in which it lives. Sure, it’s got very low cannabinoid content, but its growing properties are extremely desirable.

Will Cannabis Ruderalis Get You High? Unless you’re an absolute newb and you’ve spent your entire life avoiding stimulants and psychoactives of every kind (including coffee, tea, pop, and high fructose corn sugar), Cannabis ruderalis will not get you high.

That said, we recommend taking things slow. Don’t jump from “never done it before” directly into the deep end. Increase the THC content slowly so you’re familiar with the feelings and know how your body will handle the high. To help you in this regard, here’s an incremental guide to help you answer the question, “Will get me high?” If your cannabis product contains one percent THC or less, you won’t feel a thing (because, most likely, this is hemp). If your cannabis product contains one percent to five percent THC, and depending on your pot experience, you might start to feel something (Cannabis ruderalis falls in this category). If your cannabis product contains five percent to 10 percent THC, you’ll probably hear a shape or two. If your cannabis product contains 10 percent to 15 percent THC, you’ll be well on your way to your HIGH. If your cannabis product contains anything above 15 percent THC, kiss reality goodbye.

If your cannabis product is (made from) a CBD-dominant strain used for medicinal purposes, you will not get high. So, again, will Cannabis ruderalis get you high? It will not. You might feel some medicinal effects (as in relief from anxiety or a decrease in pain if you have either) thanks to the CBD, but the very low THC content won’t be enough to give you the high that you’ve heard all your canna-pals talking about. Talk to the budtenders at your local dispensary and they can recommend a product with just the right amount of THC to keep you from getting too high. Is Cannabis Ruderalis Legal? A blunt with cannabis ruderalis In order to be completely, 100% legal, Cannabis ruderalis would have to exhibit the same traits as hemp. Specifically, that means that, in the United States, it would have to contain less than 0.3% THC (0.2%-0.3% THC in Europe).

As we discussed, Cannabis ruderalis typically contains 3% THC, which puts it well above the legal threshold. But, again, is Cannabis ruderalis legal? The answer is a bit confusing. Cannabis Ruderalis Is Not Legal At The Federal Level At the beginning of 2021, all cannabis is illegal according to the federal government. Currently, the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) of 1970 classifies cannabis as a Schedule I drug along with Heroin, Ecstasy, PCP, LSD, Psilocybin, Mescaline, and Peyote. Schedule I classification means that those substances have no defined medicinal purpose, have a lack of accepted safety under medical supervision, and have the highest potential for abuse. So, even though Cannabis ruderalis is about as harmless as you can get without becoming hemp, the federal government still lumps it in with much stronger drugs.

Cannabis Ruderalis Is Legal In Many States As of this writing, all 50 states have addressed the use of cannabis and cannabis-derived products (including Cannabis ruderalis). Here’s how it breaks down state by state. Legal Recreational And Medical Use Washington Oregon California Nevada Arizona Montana Colorado South Dakota Illinois Michigan Alaska Maine Vermont Massachusetts New Jersey Legal Medical Use Utah New Mexico North Dakota Minnesota Oklahoma Missouri Arkansas Louisiana Mississippi Florida Ohio West Virginia Virginia Pennsylvania New York Maryland Delaware Connecticut Rhode Island New Hampshire Hawaii

If the limit is below 3% THC, you’re golden and can partake of the Cannabis ruderalis with impunity. Cannabis Ruderalis Hybrids Are Perfect For Monster Cropping Weed plant

You’ll notice we didn’t say Cannabis ruderalis is perfect for monster cropping. It’s not.

First and foremost, it’s autoflowering.

Second, it doesn’t grow very tall and monster cropping works best on medium-height plants. Cannabis ruderalis hybrids — ruderalis mixed with an indica or sativa strain — however, are a different story entirely. If your hybrid fits the following characteristics, give monster cropping a try: Grows quickly and vigorously in the vegetative stage

Grows quickly and vigorously in the early part of the flowering stage

Grows lots of stems and bud sites

Grows to medium height Is not of the autoflowering variety Monster cropping is easy to do, doesn’t require a lot of plants to start, saves you money, and results in more flowers. An abundance of flowers, then, gives you more opportunities to toke with friends, to experiment with making your own cannabis products (e.g., hash, Thai sticks, cannabis coffee, cavi cones, and so much more), and to perfect your growing process so you can produce the best buds for recreational or medicinal use. Despite those benefits, monster cropping with Cannabis ruderalis hybrids is not without its drawbacks.

You’ll definitely need more space — one for the parent plant and one for the new plant(s) — and the ability to regulate conditions such as humidity, airflow, temperature, and light in each. Y

ou’ll also add two to three weeks to the grow cycle so that the plants can revegetate. If you’re in a terrible rush, you may want to buy your weed at a dispensary while the plants grow, or skip monster cropping altogether until you’ve got more time to spare. It’s also worth noting that not every cutting (clone) will grow.

No one knows why and it’s one of the great mysteries of the universe (right up there with a unified field theory). It’s just something you have to accept if you venture down the monster-cropping road.  When it comes to cannabinoid content, Cannabis ruderalis is close to the bottom of the barrel. C. ruderalis is very low in THC — so it won’t get you high — and, though it does have some CBD, you won’t feel the same quality of medicinal effects because the concentration is lower than high-CBD indicas and sativas.

Similarly, Cannabis ruderalis has very little value as a foodstuff or an industrial product.

Unlike hemp, ruderalis isn’t high in vitamins and minerals. And manufacturers can’t use it to produce chemical or textile products like shampoo, lotion, soap, plastic, paint, rope, or clothing.

The true value of Cannabis ruderalis lies in its abilities to autoflower and to grow quickly. For years, breeders have crossed common cannabis strains with C. ruderalis to improve growing time and flowering without decreasing cannabinoid content. So, while Cannabis ruderalis is pretty much just a weed, the fact that it will grow nearly anywhere — and do so quickly and without a lot of human interference — makes it a valuable member of the cannabis family.

Cannabis Freedom Alliance Releases New White Paper on Federal Regulation of Cannabis in a Legalized Environment

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2021 – Today, the Cannabis Freedom Alliance (CFA) announced that it has endorsed the States Reform Act.

The Act strongly aligns with CFA’s vision of ending prohibition in a manner consistent with helping all Americans achieve their full potential and limiting the number of barriers that inhibit innovation and entrepreneurship in a free and open market. The States Reform Act is the truly principled vehicle for conservatives, libertarian, and all who value limited government to support cannabis reform.

Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-SC)’s team in crafting this legislation and to lend it our future support. The Act creates a bill that keeps Americans and their children safe while ending the federal preemption of and interference with state cannabis laws

CFA was proud to work with Rep. Nancy Mace’s (R-SC)’s team in crafting this legislation and to lend it our future support. The Act creates a bill that keeps Americans and their children safe while ending the federal preemption of and interference with state cannabis laws.

The States Reform Act: Federally decriminalizes cannabis and fully defers to state powers over prohibition and commercial regulation Regulates cannabis products like alcohol products Institutes a 3% federal excise tax on those products to fund law enforcement and small business programs. Ensures the continued existence of state medical cannabis programs and patient access while allowing for new medical research and products to be developed Protects our veterans by ensuring they will not be discriminated against in federal hiring for cannabis use or lose their VA healthcare for following their doctor’s advice to use medical cannabis Protects children and young adults under 21 from cannabis products and advertising nationwide

Weldon Angelos, co-Coordinator of CFA’s Steering Committee and head of Mission Green/The Weldon Project, said: “The States Reform Act represents exciting movement towards compromise on the cannabis criminal justice issue and progress-building on the First Step Act. Representative Mace is bringing constructive solutions that promise to bring more Republicans to the table to end an unjust root cause of mass incarceration.”

Weldon Angelos was sentenced to a mandatory 55 years in prison for selling a few pounds of marijuana while possessing a firearm “As cannabis use continues to grow throughout the country, this legislation is a good first step at striking a regulatory balance between the federal government and states,” said Jillian Snider, R Street Institute Criminal Justice & Civil Liberties Policy Director and retired NYPD officer. “It provides a comprehensive framework for federal decriminalization, including updating laws that help guide our criminal justice system.

One crucial change would allow certain non-violent federal cannabis convictions to be expunged, freeing up those resources to protect public safety in other, more valuable ways. We are thrilled to see a Republican-led effort to bring federal cannabis laws into the modern age and applaud Congresswoman Mace for her leadership.”

Cannabis Freedom Alliance Releases New White Paper on Federal Regulation of Cannabis in a Legalized Environment Cannabis Freedom Alliance (CFA), a coalition of prominent national advocacy and business organizations seeking to end the prohibition and criminalization of cannabis in the United States, released a White Paper that provides an overview and general recommendations to help guide the effort toward federal legalization of cannabis. CFA Steering Committee Membership includes prominent national advocacy organizations Americans for Prosperity (AFP), Mission Green/The Weldon Project, the Reason Foundation, and the Global Alliance for Cannabis Commerce (GACC), and Law Enforcement Action Partnership (LEAP).

The CFA White Paper, available for download at cannabisfreedomalliance.org, provides analysis and makes recommendations on a variety of topics–from criminal justice reform to the mechanics of federally-regulated interstate trade–that help ensure a free, fair, open, and equitable cannabis marketplace for all Americans. Specifically, the aim is to achieve the following goals: Establishing a regulatory framework that promotes public safety while allowing innovation, industry, and research to thrive. Ensuring individuals previously involved in the illicit market can effectively secure a second chance and contribute to the legal market. Creating low barriers to entry and non-restrictive occupational and business licensing so that large companies and new entrepreneurs can compete on a level playing field. Imposing a total tax burden – federal, state, and local combined – that does not incentivize the continuation of gray or black markets and ensures competitive global footing for a vibrant, novel U.S. industry. For more information on the CFA or to join our efforts, please visit our website at cannabisfreedomalliance.org or email us at info@cannabisfreedomalliance.org.

About the Cannabis Freedom Alliance: The Cannabis Freedom Alliance (CFA) is a coalition of advocacy and business organizations seeking to end the prohibition and criminalization of cannabis in the United States in a manner consistent with helping all Americans achieve their full potential and limiting the number of barriers that inhibit innovation and entrepreneurship in a free and open market.

Dan Laughlin, R-Erie, and Sharif Street, D-Philadelphia, said they will co-sponsor legislation to allow Pennsylvanians in the state’s medical marijuana program (MMJ) to cultivate a limited number of cannabis plants from their home for personal use. “Pennsylvania’s MMJ Advisory Board and the state Health Department have mounting data illustrating significant disparities in accessibility,” Laughlin said.

“Cost has likewise been a big burden for patients for quite some time.” Pennsylvania approved medical marijuana with Act 16 in 2016, but patients in some rural counties must travel more than two hours to purchase flower at a dispensary. Patients also have complained products at the dispensaries are very expensive, particularly for cancer and terminally ill patients who do not have insurance coverage for the medicine they need. “It is critical that policy meet people where they are, and by allowing medical marijuana patients to grow cannabis plants at home, we can help ease the cost and accessibility burdens for this important medicine,” Laughlin said.

“This legislation would go a long way towards helping everyday Pennsylvanians meet their health needs and ensuring everyone is treated equitably and fairly under Act 16.” Laughlin and Street posted a memorandum Wednesday on the Pennsylvania state Senate website to solicit co-sponsors for the legislation. The Marijuana Policy Project, a nonprofit that advocates for marijuana policy reform, reports about half of the states with medical marijuana programs, and 15 of 19 states that have legalized adult-use cannabis, currently allow for personal cultivation. The Marijuana Policy Project contends in states with safeguards in place, such as a limit on plant numbers and requirements to keep grows out of public view, there have been no serious issues. No states have repealed home cultivation, and none is attempting to do so, according to the nonprofit.

The senators’ announcement came just over a month after Laughlin and Street introduced legislation to allow for adult use of marijuana in Pennsylvania. Senate Bill 473 would allow for personal use of marijuana, establish a Cannabis Regulatory Control Board, provide for regulating marijuana businesses, help those convicted of marijuana related crimes to expunge their records and incorporate the changes into current laws regarding driving under the influence. SB 473 is awaiting a hearing in the Senate Law and Justice Committee.

Laughlin and Street said more than 60% of Pennsylvanians support adult-use marijuana legislation, which the Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office estimated would generate between $400 million and $1 billion a year in new tax revenue for the commonwealth. Pennsylvania State Police arrested more than 20,000 adults for marijuana-relation violations in 2020, an increase from 2019, the senators said. Federal lawmakers, meanwhile, also have moved to decriminalize marijuana nationally.

U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced legislation Monday to decriminalize marijuana and allow states to pass laws and regulations without fear of federal intrusion. Mace told reporters at a Washington news conference a half-dozen of her Republican colleagues plan to co-sponsor the bill she said would regulate marijuana in the same way as alcohol, prohibiting use for anyone under 21, The Associated Press reported. If approved, Mace said, the measure would not change local marijuana restrictions and regulations already adopted by states. “It protects each state’s unique laws and reforms,” she said.

“It takes into account at the federal level that every state is different.” The National Conference of State Legislatures has reported 36 states and four territories have approved medical marijuana use. Eighteen states, two territories and the District of Columbia.

Cannabis Global in Distribution and Purchase Option Agreement for Cannabis Transport System Comply Bag(R)

LOS ANGELES, CA November 10, 2021 Cannabis Global, Inc. , an innovation-oriented company investing in disruptive cannabis technologies, today announces it has entered into a distribution agreement with Humboldt Bliss to distribute the Company’s Comply Bag®, cannabis transport system with integrated smartphone track and trace app.

As part of the agreement, the Company also also granted Humboldt Bliss an option to purchase a controlling interest in Ethos Technology LLC, dba Comply Bag®, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cannabis Global, for $4 million, which controls the products and the associated intellectual property.

David Welch, the managing partner at DRWelch, a Los Angeles-based law firm specializing in regulatory compliance and intellectual property issues with a strong specialization in the cannabis industry, who serves as general counsel of Humboldt Bliss, commented, “We see strong possibilities relative to Comply Bag® especially relating to what most people in the cannabis industry believe will be an upcoming national market for cannabis. Comply Bag® is the best way to stop diversion of cannabis from the legal market into the illicit market and we believe likely to become a standard requirement for Government approved cannabis facilities. As more licensed and legal cannabis commerce occurs, the secure tracking and tracing of cannabis shipments will become a vital interest of both corporations and regulatory agencies.”

Comply Bag® utilizes proven security, tamper resistance, and tracking

features that will allow cannabis companies to transport products

as safely as large financial institutions transport cash and marketable securities.

The product includes the integration of the METRC applications programming interface (API)

into a custom smartphone app that will allow cannabis shippers and receivers to scan shipments

with the information being integrated directly into the leading cannabis track and trace system.

At least 15 states, including California. #CannabisGlobal

OG: the Old Gangster is Back

Let’s dig into its weed culture nomenclature — and there are a lot of theories. Some say it’s an acronym for “ocean grown,” “original gangster,” or a shortened version of the word “original.”

If you’ve seen the term “OG” pop up in online media or social feeds, we won’t blame you if you have only a vague idea of what it means.

Most of the time, it seems like an internet slang term that could refer to anything and everything. Urban dictionary’s top definition says it used to mean “original gangster” but is now used as a shorthand for “original.”

A quick Twitter search for #OG ran the gamut from workout goals to happy birthday wishes to pictures of adorable dogs in winter sweaters.

So, what does OG actually mean? The short answer: it means a lot of things to a lot of different people.

In weed culture, OG are two letters you will see in front of a lot of strains that feature the parent strain, OG Kush. Given the frenzied pace of strain breeding right now, hot new strains come and go, but OG Kush has maintained its indisputable popularity. It’s even Weedmaps’ number one most popular strain and reigning Strain Madness champion.

This sativa-leaning hybrid is best known for its epic potency, with THC percentages regularly coming in at 20-25%. Some OG Kush consumers report long-lasting effects that land more in the head than the body, while intensifying sound and color. Described as having an earthy, berry, or citrusy taste, this happy, giggly, and relaxed strain is outstandingly social. No wonder strain breeders seek its parentage.

The OG origin story

Now that we know what to expect from consuming this uber-popular strain, let’s dig into its weed culture nomenclature — and there are a lot of theories. Some say it’s an acronym for “ocean grown,” “original gangster,” or a shortened version of the word “original.”

To know what OG means, you need to know the names of two cannabis growing forefathers who first became friends and roommates in Los Angeles in the early 1990s: Matt “Bubba” Berger, who currently works as a consultant and dispensary owner in Denver’s legal cannabis market, and Josh Del Rosso aka Josh D, Founder and Managing Director of Josh D Farms.

In Berger’s telling, he cultivated the strain in Florida from a random bag of flower he got from a friend in 1992. Another friend, impressed by the strain’s frosty colas, said the buds resembled “kushberries,” which was then shortened to “kush.” In 1996, Berger returned to LA with his kush seeds, and he and Del Rosso planted Kush, Bubba (another of Berger’s strains), and Purple Indica in the crawl space of a rental house they shared.

Word of Del Rosso and Berger’s Kush strain took off and demand soared, reaching $8,000 a pound in the late 90s — that’s around $13,400 in today’s dollars. But with success came imitators hoping to cash in on the Kush phenomena.

Del Rosso and Berger added “OG” to their original Kush to distinguish it from all the others, which stands for “original.” Adding one more layer of confusion, Berger and Del Rosso’s Kush is totally separate and unrelated to landrace kush, an indica that originated in Afghanistan.

OG Kush was hugely popular with 90s consumers, largely for its inclusion in hip hop culture in Los Angeles.

It’s been said it was a favorite of superstar pot celebrity Snoop Dogg and rapper B-Real of the West Coast hip-hop group Cypress Hill (who later released an album titled Greatest Hits from the Bong in 2005).

What does OG mean in pop culture?

So how did the term OG catch on in pop culture? That’s a winding road that leads back to the early 1970s, originating with the LA-based gang the Crips. Originally, it was an all-encompassing term that stood for “original gangster” and simply meant that they were literally the first, e.g. “OG Eastside Crip.”

Over time, the term broadened and evolved, and could refer to someone who showed extreme loyalty to the gang. The term was also used by younger members when referring to the elder gang members as a sign of respect.

As hip-hop and rap music began their mainstream ascent in the 80s, the term OG began to shift from gang culture to rap music and videos when artists sometimes referred to exceptionally badass aspects of gang culture as OG.

Rapper and actor Ice-T may be most responsible for bringing the term to a wider audience with his album and single of the same name,

O.G. Original Gangster,” which reached #7 on 1991’s Billboard rap chart. That could be what inspired Del Rosso and Berger, but that’s impossible to know for sure.

Eventually, the term seeped into establishment culture and continued to expand its meaning. Today you see it everywhere as a reference to something or someone that has exceptionally impressive skills, exemplifies a particular quality, or is the first of its kind.
