CBD Research Studies The ” C ” Word

Recently my research has found this interesting documentation about canabis oil (actual Full Spectrum CBD in independent studies.)

Inspirational Technologies – 2020 AllRightsReserved

Just fell over this – a little research documentation regarding Cannabis and cancerโ€ฆ. I decided to post the complete studies myself. Undergoing my secondary verifications ๐Ÿ˜Š ๐Ÿ˜ƒ.

โ€ฒโ€ฒ Therapeutic cannabis oil and its carcinogenic methods
There are cannabinoids that have anti-tumor properties such as THC and CBD, among others. In preclinical models, it has been possible to demonstrate antitumour activity in different types of tumours such as brain tumors (Gliomas), Skin (Melanoma and Kutan-Squamous cell carcinoma), chest, pancreas, liver and prostate tumours, among others (Munson y cols., 1975; Galve-Roperh cols., 2000; Velasco y cols., 2012; Velasco y cols., 2016).

The cannabinoids activate CB1 and CB2 receptors present in the tumour cells, thus initiating a complex route of intracellular signalling that causes cells to die (Carracedo y cols., 2006; Salazar y cols., 2009 ; Velasco y cols., 2012; Hernandez-Tiedra y cols., 2016).

In addition to causing the tumour cells โ€ฒโ€ฒ suicide “, cannabinoids also inhibit the excretion of VEGF factor needed to form the cancer’s blood vessels. This means that nutrients necessary for growth of tumour is blocked (Blazquez y cols., 2003; Blazquez y cols., 2004).

A third antitumor effect is the cannabinoids ability to modulate the effect of certain enzymes (Metalloproteases) involved in remodeling the extracellular matrix, which is an important aspect of the ability to migrate and invasion of the tumour (Blazquez y cols., 2008; Velasco y cols., 2012; Velasco y cols., 2016).

In addition to the direct effects on the tumour and its growth, cannabinoids can provide beneficial effects as an adjuvant treatment for some types of tumours (cerebral gliomas). Animal studies have shown that cannabinoids can enhance both chemotherapy (Torres y cols., 2011) and radiotherapy (Scott y cols., 2014).

In the palliative treatment (non-curative symptomatic treatment) of tumours, cannabinoids improve many symptoms that occur frequently during chemotherapy such as nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, physical pain or insomnia โ€ฒโ€ฒ

CBD -Youโ€™re Guidebook to Growing Home Hemp 2021

With everyone on social isolation, businesses shutdown, and some mild uncertainty in the cannabis/hemp industry, what better time than now to work on your green thumb and start your own home-grow?

Growing Hemp during Staying Home Guide

Indoor or Outdoor? Now that the US has given us a guide on Hemp (see our post on the USDA) effective March 22, 2021. For those who would like to try their hand at Hemp, remember now we should follow the instruction of law. Aside from that, what is a good process to get going?ย

The very first thing youโ€™ll need to do is decide if you want to grow your plants inside or outside.

Of course, indoor grown CBD flowers will be of superior quality, but it takes more work and a larger initial investment.

Choosing to grow inside also depends largely on if you have enough space to pull it off. A nice sized closet would work, where you can hook up some lights and the plants will have enough room to grow both in height and width, but be mindful of your electric use outside the growroom, as your utility bills will go up significantly.

If you plan to grow outside, youโ€™ll want to get familiar with your gardening zone, this will help you determine when to plant your crop for best results. Gardening zones in the United States are listed as 1-9, with 1 being the coldest and 9 being the hottest. Typically, somewhere between zones 6 and 8 will be optimal, but you can grow quite a bit in zone 9 if you have an adequate watering source.

Florida Hemp

Some areas might not be suitable for growing CBD Flowers outside at all, so bear that in mind when doing your research. Another option thatโ€™s becoming increasing popular is growing CBD hemp flowers in a greenhouse. Greenhouses replicate the atmosphere of an indoor grow, to an extent, and will save you a lot of money in energy costs. They allow for year-round cultivation in a climate controlled environment where you can regulate the sunlight exposure as you wish.

If I were to choose an option, Iโ€™d personally go with the greenhouse.

Once youโ€™ve settled on where you want to grow your plants, youโ€™ll need to get everything set up. That starts with deciding what strain/s you want to grow. Cultivation methods for CBD hemp flowers can vary depending on the strain youโ€™re growing. Do you want a regular strain or an autoflowering strain? Indica, sativa, or hybrid?

Any specific strains you like better than others? Letโ€™s take a quick look at how each of these options might impact your grow-op or your final product.

Picking a Strain

Weโ€™ll start with regular strains vs autoflowering. With CBD flower plants, there are 2 main stages of the growing cycle: the vegetative stage and the flowering stage. The transition from one stage to the next requires changes in the plantโ€™s light cycle. When growing outside, youโ€™ll need to make sure you plant in the correct season, so your plants go into the vegetative stage when time โ€œsprings forwardโ€.

If youโ€™re growing inside, youโ€™ll need different colored light bulbs to replicate the changes. With autoflowering strains, well, they switch to the flowering stage automatically without any assistance from external light sources.

These strains are typically more user-friendly and would be ideal for the novice grower, but generally speaking, the quality of the buds is not quite as good as with regular strains.ย  The next step is to pick an actual strain.

Youโ€™ll need to decide if you want indica, sativa, or hybrid โ€“ although letโ€™s be honest, these days, nearly all strains are hybrids; but more on that another time. Also, do you want a specific CBD hemp flower strain or are you O.K. with something random and new? This is the easy part since it really all boils down to personal preference.

For the record, a few easy to grow strains are Blue Dream, Green Crack, and Harlequin.

Getting Set Up Seeds or Clones? Seeds have more options but much more difficult. Clones are easier to grow but can be harder to find and sketchy to transport depending on where you live.

If you choose to start from seed, the first thing you will need to do is get your plant sprouted. If youโ€™re buying good quality seeds from a trusted seedbank, you can go ahead and put the seeds straight into the soil and let them do their thing.

If you receive some seeds and want to test their viability before putting planting them directly, you can germinate the seed by putting in a damp paper towel, in a warm place with indirect sunlight.

I use a window where there is an overhang from the roof. Direct sunlight is often too strong for germinating seeds and even for young, barely sprouted plants.

Now when it comes to actual growing equipment, that will vary based on the growing method you choose (indoor, outdoor, soil, hydro, aeroponic, etc.), or the climate you live in if you choose to grow outdoors.ย

Industrial Hemp Farm

That said, here are a few basic itemsย you will likely need no matter where or how you plan on growing: Growing tent (with built in ventilation system) Lights (with different color and wattage bulbs to for the flower stage)

Soil, coco coir, or another planting medium, Filtration fixturesย

Timers, Thermometer, Hydrometerย  Pots and other basic gardening toolsย

You can get all of these items for about $500 to $750, again, depending on your geographic location as well as what exactly you need.

If youโ€™re growing inside, youโ€™ll need to account for the higher utility bills as well.

This all might sound a bit pricey, but keep in mind, this is just the initial investment.

In the long run, you will save money not having to buy flower and you will have much more control over the final product. After getting the initial items together, we are now ready to move forward and find that seed that will satisfy the government regulations and your foot in the soil.ย

Scientists Just Learned How CBD Makes Molecules 30x More Effective Than Aspirin. Why Opioids Just Canโ€™t Compete.

Cannabis is a complex plant with a complex history. It’s been cultivated for at least 6,000 years, but because of its modern legal status, we’re still learning new things about its medicinal benefits. While most of us have heard of the plant’s pain-relieving cannabinoids, such as CBD, there’s a lesser known class of compounds that deserves our attention.

Flavonoids are a group of natural substances that are thought to hold anti-oxidative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties. These compounds are found in fruits, vegetables, flowers, tea, wine, and, yes, even cannabis.

In 1986, researcher Marilyn Barrett at the University of London was the first to identify two cannabis flavonoids, known as cannflavin A and cannflavin B, both of which were found to have anti-inflammatory benefits 30 times more effective than Aspirin.

But while the flavonoid pathway has been extensively studied in several other plants, for decades, there has been no specific data on their biosynthesis in cannabis. Now, for the first time, researchers in Canada have uncovered how the cannabis plant creates these important pain-relieving molecules.

Our objective was to better understand how these molecules are made, which is a relatively straightforward exercise these days,” explains Tariq Akhtar, a molecular and cellular biologist at the University of Guelph.

“There are many sequenced genomes that are publicly available, including the genome of Cannabis sativa, which can be mined for information. If you know what you’re looking for, one can bring genes to life, so to speak, and piece together how molecules like cannflavins A and B are assembled.”

Using a combination of genomics and biochemistry techniques, the team was able to pinpoint which genes were responsible for creating these two cannflavins. Their findings provide the first evidence of a unique genetic pathway in Cannabis sativa plants, which uses two enzymes to ultimately create cannflavin A and B.

Extracting and purifying these compounds from a cannabis plant, however, just isn’t practical. Akhtar epxlained to The Toronto Star that these cannflavins only make up about .014 per cent of the plant’s weight, so fields and fields of cannabis would have to be grown in order to capture these anti-inflammatory benefits.

As a result, the researchers hope to use this new information to metabolically engineer their own pain-relieving medicine outside of the cannabis plant. To achieve this, they will be working with the Toronto-based company, Anahit International Corp., which has already licensed a patent from their university.

“The problem with these molecules is they are present in cannabis at such low levels, it’s not feasible to try to engineer the cannabis plant to create more of these substances,” says co-author Steven Rothstein, who studies the molecular and genetic qualities of crop plants at University of Guelph.

“We are now working to develop a biological system to create these molecules, which would give us the opportunity to engineer large quantities.”

Without some of the side effects of other painkillers, the authors think the synthesis of these molecules could make a big difference in the pharmaceutical industry.

Previous studies have shown that the vast majority of patients prefer cannabis to opioids when managing their pain, which suggests there’s ample market for a drug that mimics its benefits.

“There’s clearly a need to develop alternatives for relief of acute and chronic pain that go beyond opioids,” says Akhtar.

“These molecules are non-psychoactive and they target the inflammation at the source, making them ideal painkillers.”

This research has been published in Phytochemistry.
