CBD vs. THC: What Are the Differences? Why it Matters.

Concern about the dangers of marijuana abuse led to the banning of cannabinoids for use in the U.S. and many other countries in the 1930s and 1940s.

It took decades until they came to be considered again as compounds of value, and even now their uses are highly restricted. What Is Cannabis? Cannabis is a naturally growing herb that has been used for thousands of years to treat health conditions

. It’s also used in perfumes, soaps, candles and some foods. Cannabis originated in Central Asia, but today it’s grown worldwide. The term cannabis (popularly known as marijuana) is used to describe a product of the Cannabis sativa plant that is bred for its potent, sticky glands that are known as trichomes. These trichomes contain high amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (called THC), which is the cannabinoid most known for its psychoactive properties. Cannabis Components Cannabinoids are a group of 21-carbon–containing terpenophenolic compounds produced uniquely by cannabis species. These plant-derived compounds may be referred to as phytocannabinoids. Although delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (known as THC) is the primary psychoactive ingredient, other known compounds with biologic activity are cannabinol, cannabidiol, cannabichromene, cannabigerol, tetrahydrocannabivarin and delta-8-THC. Cannabis vs. Hemp Hemp oil — obtained by pressing benefit-rich hemp seeds — is slightly different than cannabis oil, although they both come from the same genus, Cannabis, and the same species, Cannabis Sativa. The term hemp is used to describe a Cannabis Sativa plant that contains only trace amounts of THC. Hemp is a high-growing plant that’s commonly grown for industrial uses, such as oils and topical ointments, as well as fiber for clothing, construction, paper and more. Cannabis Oil vs. CBD Oil Cannabis oil and CBD oil are not the same thing. So what is CBD oil? Cannabidiol (CBD) oil has a high concentration of cannabidiol, while cannabis oil contains both CBD and THC. CBD oil is created by extracting CBD from either the cannabis or hemp plant and then diluting it with a carrier oil like coconut or hemp seed oil. CBD does not produce a euphoric “high” or psychoactive effect because it doesn’t affect the same receptors as THC. CBD cannabis oil or CBD hemp oil are both said to be non-psychoactive. However, it gets confusing because any oil that is CBD-dominant is considered a CBD oil, and it produces different effects from THC-dominant cannabis oils. Most CBD oil comes from industrial hemp, which typically contains more CBD than marijuana. History According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, cannabis use dates back at least 3,000 years. It was introduced into the Western mindset in the 1840s by W.B. O’Shaughnessy, a surgeon who learned of its beneficial properties while working in India for the British East Indies Co. In 1937, the U.S. Treasury Department introduced the “Marihuana Tax Act,” which imposed a levy of $1 per ounce for “health-focused” use of cannabis and $100 per ounce for recreational use. This was opposed by physicians who were not required to pay a special tax for prescribing cannabis, use special order forms to obtain it and keep records detailing its professional use. The American Medical Association believed that evidence of cannabis’ harmful effects was limited and the act would prevent further research into its worth health-wise. By 1942, cannabis was removed from the U.S. Pharmacopoeia because of persistent concerns about its potential to cause harm. Final Thoughts While studies have certainly shown the benefits of cannabis used for some health purposes, there are many strains of cannabis, and they are not all equal. If you are using cannabis oil, make sure it is purchased through a reputable and lab-tested company. Last but not least, remember that cannabis is a very powerful oil, and only small amounts are needed for it to have a powerful effect on the body and mind.

Diamond MCOA and CGBL Are At It Again. Diamond Mining Within the Cannabis Industry.

May 25, 2021

Cannabis Global, Inc. and Marijuana Company of America today announce the funding of a state-of-the-art cannabis extract laboratory in Lynwood, California.

Cannabis Glogal

The two companies recently created a joint venture, MCOA Lynwood Services, Inc., which is majority-owned by Cannabis Global, Inc., which will oversee operations and marketing of cannabis products produced by the venture. “One of our top priorities at the new laboratory is to produce a crystalline form of THC-A called “Diamonds” to be sold into the wholesale and retail markets and for use on our own branded products,” commented Arman Tabatabaei, CEO of Cannabis Global.

“Production of cannabis Diamonds, which is often called Diamond Mining within the cannabis industry, is highly specialized requiring not only specific licensing and permitting but also state-of-the-art extraction equipment and specialized scientific personnel. With our funding now secure and the technical talent in place, we are now moving quickly to turn up operations.”

The laboratory will be operated by Cannabis Global’s subsidiary, Natural Plant Extract of California (NPE), under its Type 7 cannabis manufacturing permit. NPE will manage the laboratory and manufacturing operations with both MCOA and CBGL personnel providing consulti

ng and business management services.

The State of California limits the issuances of Type 7 permits for production of cannabis extracts utilizing volatile substances. NPE has invested heavily in building safety and the environmental retrofits required for Type 7 permitting, and recently renewed its permit for this type of cannabis extraction.

Last year, according to data published by MJBizDaily, the cannabis concentrate product category was up by more than 40%, representing one of the fastest-growing cannabis sub-categories.

Pricing of products in the category also rose last year by five percent, primarily driven by increased demand as consumers continued to move away from vape products due to health concerns, and as consumers in mature markets, such as Los Angeles, are increasingly demanding more potent cannabis products. “Diamonds” is a cannabis industry term for crystal formations of THC-A cannabinoids.

Diamonds are produced as THC-A molecules clump together creating crystalline faceted formations that resemble diamonds. NPE plans to offer its Diamond products directly to California cannabis retailers and wholesale markets via its sister company, Northern Lights Distribution, and to enhance its own manufactured products, under the Northern Light brand name.

Mr. Tabatabai, continued, “Because we will be producing our own concentrates to feed our own brands while also acting as our own distributor, this new laboratory and the products it will produce opens up a host of new revenue and vertical integration opportunities for our companies.”

About Cannabis Global, Inc. Cannabis Global, Inc. is a Los Angeles-based, fully audited and reporting Company with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, trading under the stock symbol CBGL. We are an emerging force in the cannabis marketplace with a growing product and proprietary intellectual property portfolio. We are marketing and producing Comply Bag™, an innovative solution for cannabis storage, transport and tracking, and are the developer and marketer of the Hemp You Can Feel™ brand.

Our subsidiary, Natural Plant Extract (NPE), is a Southern California licensed cannabis manufacturer and distributor which licenses our technologies to produce edibles for the cannabis marketplace. Cannabis Global has filed three non-provisional and multiple provisional patents for cannabis infusion and nanoparticle technologies and continues an active research & development program.

COA’S – Don’t Pay Without the COA for Your CDB

What is a certificate of analysis?

A certificate of analysis (COA) is a lab report on the chemical make-up (e.g., contents) of a product. In the context of Industrial Hemp extracts, the COA reports on the cannabinoid, terpene, and contaminant profile of CBD products. COA’s are used to verify that the contents of the product are matched to how it is advertised. These reports are important for verifying that hemp extracts have less than 0.3% THC by weight, as determined by the definition of Industrial Hemp in the law. OUR Premium, THC-Free products are supported by COA’s such as the one shown below, which indicate ‘non-detect’ levels of THC. Also, tests are carried out to check for dangerous compounds such as heavy metals or pesticides and reported in the certificate to ensure the safety of the consumers.

Why are COAs important? A study conducted in 2017 found that almost 70% of online CBD products are mislabeled, either having substantially more or less CBD than advertised. For nutraceutical applications, knowing the exact potency and ingredients is extremely important. For example, manufacturers could claim a CBD product contains no THC, or claim a certain potency in their product, but since there is little oversight, the opportunity to “fudge the numbers” is compounded. This could be a major issue for people who are choosing products without THC in order to avoid its psychoactive side effects or pass a drug test because of a job. In an unregulated industry, with new CBD companies popping up everywhere, it is difficult for customers to know exactly what they are paying for. Labeling alone is not reliable, especially when products are sold online to customers who do not fully understand the ins and outs of the industry. This is the reason COA’s are standard practice for reliable, law-abiding CBD manufacturers. They create transparency for consumers as well as regulators to clearly identify exactly what is and is not inside a given hemp extract.

How do I find the COA for my CBD product?

There are a few ways to find COAs. Most companies will include them on their website, or provide them to customers upon request. Make sure they are up to date and match the batch number listed on your product. Indiana, Texas, Utah, and Florida have passed state laws that require QR codes on all CBD products. Although other states have not yet passed similar laws, most CBD companies are transitioning to include QR codes on their packaging to increase transparency and make it easy for customers to find this information. Customers can use their phones to scan the code on the package and link directly to the COA specific to the product that the code is printed on.

How do I read a COA?

CBD hemp third party certificate of analysis COA for hempSmart

Certificate Of Analysis (COA) Page 1 of 8 Be sure all pages are represented. This page shows company and product description.

The first thing you want to check on a COA is that the company who performed the lab test is not the same company who is selling the product. This is called a ‘third party’ test and it is to ensure transparency in the results. If it was only tested by the company selling the product, there could be bias in the report. *This description is specific to the example COA provided by this third-party lab. COAs may vary from lab to lab, but all of the elements described should be present, regardless of format. On the top left, there is information to identify the sample and batch which it came from. On the top right, the address and contact information of the company selling the product is listed. The QR code in the top center can be scanned by anyone to verify the authenticity of the report. It links to the lab that performed the analysis so consumers can cross check to make sure the COA was not fabricated.

The bottom half of the first page shows the cannabinoid profile of the sample, listing the cannabinoids which were detected as well as their concentration. This is probably the most important section of the COA because it tells consumers exactly which cannabinoids are present and at what potency. The ID column of the chart indicates which cannabinoids were tested for. D9-THC is the psychoactive component which must be lower than .3 weight % (middle column) in order for it to be legal. ‘ND’ stands for ‘non-detect’ meaning there was such a miniscule amount, if any, in the sample that the laboratory instruments could not detect it.

Essentially, this means it is not present in the product.

Our products which are all labeled THC-Free are tested to have ND levels of THC. This specific report is analyzing a CBD oil said to have no THC, which is reflected in this table. CBD, CBDV, and CBG were detected in the analysis and their concentration is reported in milligrams per gram of the product. This ‘Conc.’ column is the potency of the tested CBD oil, which should be compared to the CBD concentrations advertised on the label of the product.

On the right of the chart is a bar graph corresponding to the relative amounts of the various cannabinoids in the product sample.

Page 2 of this COA
Showing the Major and Minor Findings

THC-Free broad spectrum hemp oils should have CBD, other cannabinoids such as CBG or CBN, but non-detect levels of THC. Full spectrum hemp extracts should have many cannabinoids including D9-THC, as long as the THC weight % is below 0.3%. Heavy Metal Analysis hemp derived CBD oil third party certificate of analysis for pesticide analysis The heavy metal analysis chart indicates which metals were tested for with the chemical symbol and name. ‘Conc.’ is the concentration of the metal measured in the sample. ‘Units’ refers to the measurement size, in this case micrograms per kilogram (1,000,000,000 micrograms in 1 kilogram). MDL is the lower limit of detection for the lab instruments. ‘Use Limits’, the most important of which being ‘Ingestion’, is the amount determined by the state Department of Public Health and U.S. Pharmacopeia that is safe to ingest per day. In the case of this report, lead is the only metal detected and it is well below the allowed limit. 11 micrograms per kilogram were detected while the standardized safety limit is 1000. Pesticide Analysis hemp derived CBD oil third party certificate of analysis for pesticide analysis.

Another report in the COA is the pesticide analysis, which lists a number of common pesticides tested for in the sample. The unit in this case is ‘ppb’ or parts per billion. LLD is the “lower limit of detection” based on each specific pesticide, and the ‘Limits’ column is the maximum amount allowed for consumption based on safety regulations established in the State of California (these values may vary slightly depending on the specific state or federal guidelines identified in the report). The ‘Status’ column indicates PASS if the sample is under the legal limit or NO PASS if the levels are above the limit. In this report, no pesticides were detected.

The terpene profile analysis shows which terpenes were detected in the sample and the relative amount of each by weight percent. Terpenes are what give hemp products their unique flavors and aromas. The variation in kind and abundance can give consumers information on how it may smell or taste.

Don’t Pay Without the COA

In an industry that is quickly expanding with limited regulation, it is extremely important that as a consumer, you know exactly what you are purchasing.

Certificates of analysis provide transparency and assurance to consumers so they can be confident in what they are buying.

Although COAs vary in appearance depending on the lab, the basic information presented in this article should be present on any third party

COA. Dates and product batch numbers should be listed so consumers can make sure that the report is up to date and specific to the batch that their product is from. The cannabinoid profile should match the product description, including the type of extract (broad spectrum, full spectrum, etc.) and potency of the product.

Heavy metal and pesticide analysis can be used to ensure that the hemp was grown safely and its extract is safe to consume.

Companies which do not provide up to date certificates of analysis should be avoided.

COA fraud also exists in the industry and precautions should be taken in order to make sure your COA has not been fabricated.

Hemp 2020 Will Be Catapulted in 2021

Recent American Poll

45% Heard of and Use CBD

20% Know CBD comes from hemp

5% know What Hemp Is.

WHY WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS IMPORTANT “CROP”.

It’s a long list when you’re looking at the states it’s legal to grow hemp in 2019 — especially since only three states in the entire country didn’t make the cut.

That said, the restrictions placed by agricultural departments at the state level can severely impact the opportunities for hemp growers.

The 2018 Farming Bill paved the way for farmers to cash in on this incredible crop. However, it’s necessary to research the laws in your state before you get your hopes up. In addition to looking at the current regulations — with so many legislatures reviewing laws regarding industrial hemp growing — you’ll want to keep an eye on what’s potentially coming down the pipeline as well.

Industrial Hemp Farming – Where Is It Legal?

The industrial hemp farming act removed the plant from the list of controlled substances. The 1937 Marihuana Tax Act ban included hemp. However, farmers grew it in locations like Kentucky during the 1950s! It was also widely grown during World War II due to its many uses, which we discuss later on.

The Bill didn’t legalize CBD, nor did it guarantee the legal operation of an industrial hemp farm in every state. It made it clear that states had to develop a plan and submit it to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Therefore, states are allowed to prohibit the growth of the plant.

The Farm Bill didn’t legalize CBD, nor did it guarantee the legal operation of an industrial hemp farm in every state.

At present, Idaho stands alone as the only American state to prohibit industrial hemp cultivation. Both Mississippi and South Dakota passed legislation in hemp’s favor in 2020. Incidentally, both states also legalized medical marijuana in November 2020. South Dakota went a step further. Recreational cannabis could be on sale in SD from 2022.

According to News America, Indiana is now one of the twenty-nine states with approved hemp licensing for commercial businesses.

Many states have submitted their plans for approval. Others have yet to do so and are happy to fall back on the Farm Bill regulations.

If you intend to grow hemp, there are plenty of considerations. Too many farmers are seduced by the potential riches that await them. Some estimates suggest one can earn $100,000 per acre. Of course, you must subtract a myriad of expenses. Nonetheless, this is less of an issue if you grow over 100 acres of high-quality hemp! In most states, up to 90% of all hemp is developed for the CBD industry. This is a shame because it is a crop with phenomenal potential.

What Are Industrial Hemp’s Uses?

The number #1 use of the crop is for the billion-dollar CBD market. It is understandable but limits the potential of this fantastic plant. If you think long and hard, you could develop a long list of useful industrial hemp products. Remember, this is a crop that once dominated the American landscape. Estimates vary, but it is believed that you can make approximately 25,000+ products from the plant!

The settlers at Jamestown in Virginia grew the crop in the 17th century; it was mandatory! Copies of the Bible were made with hemp paper, as was a draft of the Declaration of Independence. Humans used the crop for centuries with industrial hemp fiber, a particular favorite. In the early 1900s, hemp-derived cellulose was championed as a renewable and affordable raw material for plastics.

The key will be to get yourself situated in a state where it’s legal to grow hemp in 2019, and then get your hands on the right seeds and clones to ensure you have the highest quality crop come harvest time

The article also stated Indiana has started accepting hemp cultivation and processing licenses in November for the 2021 growing season. The state is offering one general hemp license and another one for agricultural hemp seed production. Applicants are also required to submit their personal address, GPS coordinates, where the hemp is located and a legal description of the property used for the hemp operation.

Many other states are also currently negotiating commercial hemp licensing plans with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as farmers increasingly seek to grow hemp for manufacturers seeking cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN) and cannbigerol (CBG) for oils, lotions, foods and beverages. With more than 25,000 uses for hemp, farming hemp for textiles, insulation, pet bedding and more are increasing at an exponential rate.

(Source/Credit: News Americas Now)

One theory posits that hemp’s ability to replace synthetic materials such as plastic and nylon was a primary reason for its prohibition. You could make the argument that hemp was a threat to certain industries. DuPont produced neoprene in 1930, for example. However, the same company didn’t invent and patent nylon until the mid to late 1930s.

Incidentally, there is disagreement over the year that nylon was patented. Some sources suggest it was 1937, pbs.org suggests it was 1935, and other sources say it was 1938.

Regardless of the year, the anti-marijuana hysteria in the United States was already at a fever pitch by the mid-1930s. Perhaps the likes of the DuPont family were heavily involved in the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, though we’ll never know.

What we do know is that the world was robbed of an incredible resource for decades. There are thousands of uses for hemp. Perhaps one of the most important is as a replacement for plastic. Hemp plastic is an eco-friendly alternative to the carbon-based plastics we use today. The hemp version is usually recyclable and biodegradable.

Is it a viable alternative for plastic, however? Can hemp even replaceplastic?

House to take historic vote on federally decriminalizing marijuana. December 4, 2020, Friday, will mark the first vote ever of its kind on a federal level.

Will We Be Weeding This Right ???

The Marijuana Opportunity, Reinvestment, and Expungement Act would also mandate a reassessment of prior marijuana convictions, invest in services for people caught up in the war on drugs and open Small Business Administration funding for legitimate cannabis-related businesses.

Despite widespread support from Democrats in the House of Representatives, the bill stands almost no chance of becoming law in the current session of Congress due to a Republican firewall in the Senate and President Donald Trump still occupying the White House. Biden campaigned in favor of decriminalizing marijuana.

But even after President-elect Joe Biden is inaugurated in January, Democrats would have to pass the measure not just through the House again but also clear it through the Senate. The upper chamber’s majority control is still up for grabs — with two runoff elections in Georgia are scheduled early next month — but the legislation would be subject to a 60-vote threshold to advance through the Senate and on to the Resolute Desk.

Although the measure has collected dust since passing through the House Judiciary Committee last November, the timing of the planned floor vote more than a year later allows many Democrats to celebrate a promise to pass the bill before the end of the current session of Congress.
