“New Day” for An Old Mandated Crop

— Better clothing, better food, better gadgets…is there anything hemp can’t do? Today, reports on the benefits of hemp-based batteries and how a group of American and Canadian researchers used hemp bast fiber (the inner bark of the plant that usually ends up in landfill) to develop a battery that has been used in cars and power tools.

The Hemp Plant is now being recognized for 20,000 uses, many medicinal.

According to the researchers “cooked the woody pulp and processed them into carbon nano sheets, which they used to build supercapacitors on a par with or better than graphene which is the industry gold standard.” Is this new? No. But with continued research and development, who knows where hemp will take us in 2022 and beyond. Before we go back to the future, let’s take a look at how this research team used these fibers and recycled them into supercapacitors.

The woody pulp from the hemp fiber was cooked and processed into carbon nanosheets. These nanosheets are used to build something called supercapacitors. Supercapacitors are used as energy storage systems. We see these storage systems in the form of batteries that we use to power up different things we use in everyday life. What we may not know is that “scientists have long struggled developing energy solutions and capacitors that can keep up with the current rate of electronic component evolution. While we are able to store a large amount of energy in certain types of (non-hemp) batteries, those batteries are very large, very heavy, and charge and release their energy relatively slowly.”

Hemp batteries are referred to as supercapacitors. Accordingly , “it’s best to think of a battery-powered car or truck. They need a steady amount of electric energy as they drive down a country road. However, if that car stops at a red light, the battery will need a big burst of energy when the light turns green to get going again. Lithium-ion batteries are great at storing energy for a long time and expending it slowly. However, they are not so good at rapidly releasing a large amount of energy, like what a car needs when a red light turns green.” Supercapacitors are good at performing this function. “These types of batteries can discharge their entire load of energy quickly to provide a big boost of energy. That’s exactly what an electric vehicle needs to accelerate quickly. While supercapacitors don’t hold a charge for long, they can absorb regenerative energy from braking.”

The research team, led by Chemical Engineer Dr. David Mitlin of Clarkson University, NY, believed “replacing lithium batteries with hemp would make electric cars and other gadgets” we use in everyday life more sustainable. Who doesn’t want sustainability? Especially if you’re one of the lucky ones to have an electric car.  Most auto batteries today are made from lithium-ion, an expensive material, so replacing lithium batteries with hemp would make electric cars more sustainable.

Now let’s take a look at the benefits of hemp-based batteries.

· High Energy Density: Energy density refers to the amount of energy a battery can hold based on its weight. The higher energy density a battery has, the stronger the battery. A 2016 reported study found that hemp-based batteries contained an energy density of 19.8 Watt-hours per kilogram.

·       Cost: One of the benefits of using hemp over graphene is that hemp batteries can be made using hemp waste that hemp farmers don’t need. This makes hemp both easy to find and much cheaper than graphene. Over the next decades, the world is going to need a lot of batteries to power its vehicles, homes, and cities. Cheaper batteries made with hemp could keep the cost of this transition much lower.

·       Availability: Graphene is a versatile “it” material that is finding its way in everything from silicon chips to solar cells and, of course, batteries. However, one of the biggest downsides of graphene is that it is difficult to make in large quantities. Hemp, on the other hand, can grow to maturity in a few months and is known for its ability to grow in many different types of soil, including soils that cannot sustain other crops.

·       Superconductivity: Batteries need to conduct electricity with as little resistance as possible. The more resistant a material is to conductivity, the less efficient the battery will be. Hemp-based batteries showed extremely good conductivity.

· Temperature Resistance: The conductivity of hemp batteries remains high even in hot and cold temperatures according to the original study on hemp-based batteries. This is especially important when considering that this technology could one day find itself in vehicles that need to function in searing summer heat as well as icy winter weather.

Is there anything hemp can’t do? We’d like to think there’s nothing hemp can’t do. Simply put, hemp has been the past, present and is definitely the future.

HHC is a THC relatively long known to science. However – Just What is HHC?

Following the wild success of delta 8 THC as a legal alternative to the more controlled availability of delta 9 THC, the cannabis industry has sought other less-known cannabinoids to compete in the diverse cannabis marketplace.

One of the newest and most promising is hexahydrocannabinol, usually shortened to HHC.

What is HHC?

Hexahydrocannabinol structure.png

C21H32O2

HHC is a THC relative long known to science, but until recently not often discussed by cannabis users.

HHC is a minor cannabinoid; it occurs naturally in cannabis, but in amounts too small to make extraction cost-effective. Since commercial production of HHC is just getting off the ground, it’s still not widely known.

Most cannabinoids can be converted to other cannabinoids by altering the chemistry of the molecules. Like delta 8 THC and delta 10 THC, commercial HHC is made from hemp-derived CBD in a lab through chemical processes. HHC has one major legal advantage over delta 8 and delta 10: it isn’t called THC.

trehouse hhc gummies

TRĒ House HHC Gummies

The high-potency TRĒ house HHC gummies contain 25 mg of HHC per serving, for a total of 500 mg per pack of 20. They offer HHC’s signature euphoric and energetic high and come in a delicious and refreshing strawberry burst flavor. Go easy on them because, as TRĒ House say, “you *will* feel it”.

How is HHC produced?

HHC was discovered in the 1940s by chemist Roger Adams. He created HHC by adding hydrogen to the THC molecule and altering its physical properties. The process, called hydrogenation, is first described in a 1947 patent document.

Hydrogenation modifies the structure of delta 9 THC by replacing a double bond with two hydrogen atoms, which changes its molecular weight and also makes it more stable. According to Mark Scialdone, a chemist and BR Brands Chief Science Officer, hydrogenation improves “stability and resistance to thermo-oxidative breakdown”—which means HHC has a longer shelf life and is less prone to damage caused by UV light and heat.

Does HHC get you high? Does it have side effects?

This is kind of tricky. Although HHC isn’t technically a THC, it does produce similar effects—if you use enough of it. When it’s produced in the lab, an HHC batch is a mix of active and inactive HHC molecules. The active HHC binds well with your body’s cannabinoid receptors; the others don’t.

Manufacturers haven’t yet figured out a cost-effective way to separate high-potency HHC from its low-potency twin, so commercial HHC—which is a mix of the two forms—may be something of a crapshoot for the buyer. But HHC does have noticeable effects. Reports from users generally describe the HHC high as being somewhere between delta 8 and delta 9 THC.

Pretty much everything we know about HHC’s effects and side effects is anecdotal. That said, users report the same set of side effects familiar to delta 9 THC users: anxiety and paranoia, dry mouth, dry and red eyes, hunger, and insomnia.

Will HHC show up in a drug test?

It appears that HHC may not break down in the body in the same way as THC. Unlike the delta-8, delta-9, and delta-10 forms of THC, there is some evidence that HHC doesn’t metabolize into 11-hydroxy-THC, which is the breakdown substance many drug panels test for.

But that hasn’t been studied and isn’t certain. So far, no one knows for sure that HHC won’t leave evidence of use in your blood, urine or hair. If your employer tests for drug use, we suggest you not risk your job by using HHC.

Does HHC have medical benefits?

HHC hasn’t been widely studied, unlike more abundant cannabinoids like delta 9 THC or CBD, but there has been some promising research. A 2011 study showed that some synthetic analogs of hexahydrocannabinol (HHC) “strongly inhibited breast cancer cell-induced angiogenesis and tumor growth.” Japanese researchers published a paper in 2007 describing HHC’s impressive pain-blocking capability in mice. But it is probably too early to say whether HHC has great promise as a therapeutic drug.

Is HHC legal and will it stay legal?

The 2018 Farm Bill federally legalized the hemp plant and all its derivatives, unless the plant or anything made from it contains delta 9 THC at a concentration higher than 0.3 percent. HHC technically isn’t THC at all, so it should skirt federal scrutiny—right? Maybe.

Even though HHC is found naturally in the cannabis plant, that’s not where commercial HHC comes from. It’s a lab-produced product made by hydrogenating hemp-derived cannabinoids under pressure with a catalyst like palladium. Scientists at the National Cannabis Industry Association call the result a “semi-synthetic” cannabis compound.

That could mean HHC will get the attention of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). A cannabinoid expert at biotech company Creo thinks HHC falls under the Federal Analogue Act, which automatically classifies analogs of Schedule 1 drugs as Schedule 1 drugs themselves. If the DEA agrees, HHC could have a very short commercial heyday.

HHC could be banned by states too. This is likely if HHC becomes popular, and especially if it threatens the legal cannabis market, as we’ve seen happen with delta 8 THC. But so far HHC is probably too niche to catch the eye of state lawmakers.

Where can HHC be found?

Reportedly, few U.S. manufacturers produces HHC and offers it wholesale. We aren’t sure that’s true, but it’s a fact that not many companies are producing it. Consequently, only a handful of companies are offering HHC at retail, and they haven’t been doing it for long.

A quick Google search brought up about a dozen online retailers offering a variety of HHC products.

Most sellers offer vape carts filled with HHC oil, and many have gummies.

Less common but definitely available are disposable HHC vapes, tinctures for oral consumption, and concentrates for dabbing. At least one or a few companies sells “HHC flower”—which is hemp flower coated or infused with HHC in Florida. If HHC remains legally viable, and especially if it becomes less expensive to manufacture high-potency HHC, this promising cannabinoid will become more available in the diverse cannabis marketplace.

Cannabis Global to File for Additional International Patent Protection for its Cannabis Nanoparticle and Nanofiber Inventions After Positive Search Reports

Cannabis Global to File for Additional International Patent Protection for its Cannabis Nanoparticle and Nanofiber Inventions After Positive Search Reports

LOS ANGELES, CA April 2022 Cannabis Global, Inc. (OTC CBGL), a licensed Los Angeles-based manufacturer and distributor in the cannabis sector today announces the Company’s intentions to apply for additional patent protection for its unique inventions for the creation of nanoparticles and nanofibers made for cannabinoids.

New and Innovative Ways of the CBD World 🌍

Cannabis Global will be filing for protection of its nanoparticle and fiber inventions in the European Union, Canada, and Israel.

“With the potential of the United States finally passing legislation to create a legal framework for nationwide recreational cannabis usage and numerous other countries relaxing cannabis restrictions, we believe the importance of our inventions of new cannabinoid delivery technologies cannot be overstated,” commented Arman Tabatabaei, CEO of Cannabis Global.

“Of the four unique technology sets for which we have filed formal patent applications, we are especially excited about our prospects relative to the unique methods we have invented to create nanoparticles and fibers made of cannabinoids. This set of technologies hold great promise to potentially allow both cannabis and pharmaceutical companies to create numerous new products that lower costs and provide superior bioavailability of cannabinoids to the human body. With exhaustive patent searches now behind us, we feel more strongly than ever that our nanoparticle and fiber technology is possibly sound and protectable in both U.S. and internationally.”

“Cannabidiol receptors are in all mammals, supplements the bodies natural immune system and orchestrates the control of ‘dis ease’.” Steven M Smith

Cannabis Global’s patent applications portfolio is a result of the Company’s launching of Project Varin during early 2021. The project has produced several cannabinoid-related R&D and manufacturing technique breakthroughs. For example:

Slow-release cannabinoid nanofibers and nanoscale particles using edible gelatin created from food-grade acetic acid-water-based solutions. The Company believes this invention will allow product formulators to tailor products with selectable release parameters. The results also confirmed that agglomeration can be fostered and/or avoided and suggest that particles can remain suspended over long periods of time, which could facilitate innovative beverage formulations.

Quick dissolving THC and CBD hi nanofiber scaffolds were developed that almost instantly dissolved in water. This technology was specifically designed to be used in ultra-fast-acting cannabinoid delivery applications.

Tetrahydrocannabivarin (THC-V) nanofibers at 75-nanometers at 70% concentrations that were readily soluble in water. Considering the very high cost of obtaining this rare cannabinoid, the use of THC-V in a nano format could enable a host of unique product formulations. The average width of the fibers was from about 200 nm to 400 nm, which have around 6,000 times more surface area than would be available if present in spherical form.

Development of electrospraying and electrospinning techniques utilizing food-grade binders for ultra-rapid and delayed release of cannabinoids.

Mr. Tabatabaei continued, “These new nano cannabinoid delivery technologies were designed to allow beverage, food, and cosmetic product formulators to design into products for fast or slow release parameters cannabinoids and/or to use significantly less cannabinoids in products while achieving similar or meaningfully greater efficacy.

Our patent filing covers not only the new processes developed to create the new forms of cannabinoids but also the nanoparticles and nanofibers using the outlined processes and ingredients. We are especially proud of the fact we have been able to use food-grade ingredients in many of the formulations allowing consumer product companies to produce the clean labels consumers are increasingly desiring.”

High VS Hemp — Even My Wife Loves the Results. Why Hemp Is Its Own Enemy.

Why should you be growing industrial hemp?Industrial Hemp Farm

Well, it is the crop of the future (and the past), it will soon be in high demand and it has the potential to be an economic genie in a bottle. Hemp takes half the water that wheat does, and provides four times the income. Hemp is giving farming families in the climate change era.—

Colorado farmer Ryan Loflin Growing industrial hemp used to be a legal crop however, many years ago a few guys in a room decided it was too close to the marijuana plant and rather than take the time to do the research and learn they were wrong, they just decided to make it illegal. But times, they are a-changin’.

See the source image

There are now all states in which farmers are legally growing industrial hemp; some for agricultural study and others as their primary crop. If you are considering changing out your cotton or wheat or even tobacco for another, more economical and profitable crop, now is the time to research the benefits of growing industrial hemp.

So What Are the Benefits of Growing Industrial Hemp?

The hemp growing season is relatively short and farmers can fit in two growing seasons in a single year. Industrial hemp requires much less water than other crops. It grows in a variety of soil consistencies making it ideal regardless of the terrain or climate Hemp plants do not require pesticides making it more affordable and non-toxic. Industrial hemp plants are used in their entirety, producing more than 25,000 different products and a variety of industries

The United States has a multi-million dollar need for the product which has been previously imported so the demand already exists From a recent Hemp, Inc. press release we learn: “In 2011, the U.S. imported $11.5 million worth of legal hemp products, up from $1.4 million in 2000. Most of that growth was seen in hemp seed and hemp oil, which finds its way into granola bars and other products.” Other estimates place the U.S. 2013 hemp sales at half a billion dollars ($500 million). And that is just the tip of the iceberg.

From the article announcing Alabama House and Senate Passing the Industrial Hemp Bill we learn: Thus far in the United States, 27 states which include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia, and Virginia have adopted pro hemp laws. The United States remains one of the biggest importers of hemp.

See the source image

Over 30 countries produce industrial hemp, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey and Ukraine. And Louisiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania are set to pass the Industrial Hemp Farming Act of 2015 next.

You can help make the future happen by signing the petition from the National Hemp Association. They need your help to get 1M signatures and raise the money to take this to the federal level and make industrial hemp legal across all 50 states. It is time to prepare for the future and the future includes farmers growing industrial hemp. Are you on board

There’s a new hemp trend sweeping the nation and it has nothing to do with those beaded friendship bracelets from the ‘90s.

Twenty-three states have now enacted pro-industrial hemp legislation (Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie signed the latest bill this past week), making the cousin crop to marijuana a national phenomenon. Since the beginning of the year, more than 70 bills related to hemp have been introduced in more than half of the country’s states. Passage of the recent Farm Bill, which legalized the crop for research purposes, further cleared the way for industrial hemp production.

Hemp, which is the same species as marijuana (Cannabis sativa) but contains little to no THC, was grown widely in America before anti-drug sentiment helped make it unpopular in the 1950s. Today, however, the nation’s turning tide on marijuana means its “sober cousin“ is also making a comeback.

Hemp policy is “not just turning a corner,” Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) told The Huffington Post earlier this year. “It’s turning a corner and running downhill.”

So what’s with America’s new obsession with hemp? Below, 9 reasons this wonder crop is sweeping the nation, almost all of which are rooted in the crop’s sustainable and environmentally-friendly characteristics:

1. It’s a farmer’s best friend
Not only does hemp grow in a variety of climates and soil types, it also grows very tightly spaced (decreasing land use) and has a fast growing rate (which leads to high yields). Farmers in Canada are reportedly making $300-per-acre profits from growing hemp. Moreover, because the crop improves soil health (see below), farmers can grow food crops immediately after a hemp harvest without a fallow period.

2. It’s an environmentalist’s best friend
Ever wonder where the nickname “weed” comes from? The hemp plant grows like one, obviating the need for most pesticides (it is naturally resistant to most pests), herbicides, fungicides and thriving on less water than most crops. Because of its resiliency, it has also been flagged as a natural way to clean up soil pollution. Using a process called phyto-remediation, hemp was used at Chernobyl to harmlessly extract toxins and pollutants from the soil and groundwater. Hemp actually absorbs CO2 while it grows through natural photosynthesis, making it carbon-negative from the get-go.

3. It can compete with cotton
Hemp has been used as a fabric since time immemorial. As a textile, hemp is durable, comes in a variety of natural colors based on how it is processed from the plant, and has “a wonderful drape, comparable to linen,” according to Patagonia. Plus, it needs approximately half as much land and half as much water as cotton does to thrive.

4. It’s a “superfood”
Hemp seeds are used in a variety of health foods, including hemp seed butters, hemp seed energy bars, hemp oil and even hemp seed milks. The seeds have a nutty flavor and are regarded as a superfood since they are high in omega-3 fatty acids and complete protein.

5. It could save the trees
Hemp pulp has been used to create paper for at least 2,000 years, including a draft of the Declaration of Independence, but it is currently significantly pricier to process than wood pulp. If processing costs come down, however, hemp pulp could conceivably replace wood pulp, creating a more durable, sustainable and recyclable paper. Moreover, hemp’s low lignin content and naturally light color mean that fewer chemicals and less bleach would be needed to pulp and color hemp paper.

6. It can be made into bio-fuel
A 2009 study from the University of Connecticut’s Biofuel Consortium found that hemp seed oil made a “viable and even attractive“ feedstock for producing biodiesel. Hemp biodiesel proved to be high efficiency (97 percent of the hemp oil was converted to biodiesel) and could even be used at lower temperatures than other biodiesels.

7. We can make carbon-neutral buildings with it
Lovingly called “hempcrete,” hemp fiber can be mixed with lime to create carbon-neutral building supplies, including insulation, pressboard, flooring and wall construction. Hempcrete is energy-efficient, non-toxic and resistant to mold, insects and fire. Moreover, it is easier to work with than concrete and just as strong.

8. It can replace plastic
Henry Ford famously built a car out of hemp & soy plastic in the early 1940s, and Lotus recently did the same. In 2008, the Lotus Eco Elise used hemp in its composite body panels and spoiler, and many car manufacturers have since switched to hemp composites for door panels, columns, seat backs, boot linings, floor consoles and instrument panels. Hemp composites are stronger, lighter and cheaper than fiber glass and carbon fiber — plus, they’re recyclable!

9. It could make America a lot of money
Currently, America imports most of its hemp seed and hemp oil from China and Canada. In 2011, the U.S. imported $11.5 million worth of hemp products, up from $1.4 million in 2000. With the laws against industrial hemp changing, however, the U.S. has a chance to create domestic jobs and capitalize on the growing market. Some estimates value the U.S. industrial hemp market at $500 million per year; Canada’s hemp industry is reportedly going to break a billion dollars this year in earnings.

The past six months represents a breakthrough period for Cannabis Global on a relative basis,” noted Arman Tabatabaei, CEO of Cannabis Global. “We are beginning to see lift-off on our commercial-stage operational model, with extremely rapid topline growth, expanded product offerings, better funding terms, and more strategic opportunities. Signed definitive agreement with Caliwanna brands for comprehensive marketing and sales integration as well as to acquire Caliwanna cannabis brands Summarily restructured short-term convertible debt to reduce dilution risk and position company on more favorable capital terms Announced intention to apply for additional patent protection for its unique inventions for the creation of nanoparticles and nanofibers made for cannabinoids Laid foundation for the launch of an expanded suite of edibles products

Management notes that the Company has witnessed very strong topline revenue growth over the past two quarters as it ramps up commercial stage operations. That growth has been driven by a range of new products recently introduced into the marketplace as well as a widening of the Company’s distribution footprint. Revenue growth is also being driven by the Company’s acquisition of new customers in the retail dispensary space in California. The Company has also benefited from revamping the Cannabis Global product mix to better reflect emerging trends in major California metro areas as these cannabis markets have matured.

Management notes that its recent increased focus on the “solventless” trend has been an important factor, and the Company expects that trend to continue to be a key factor this year. Tabatabaei added, “We have made some key acquisitions that will shape our performance ahead, which we believe will feature accelerating growth. However, we are also focused on establishing a more vertically integrated model so more of that growth goes straight to the bottom line as we scale up further over the year ahead.”
