Hemp 2020 Will Be Catapulted in 2021

Recent American Poll

45% Heard of and Use CBD

20% Know CBD comes from hemp

5% know What Hemp Is.

WHY WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS IMPORTANT “CROP”.

It’s a long list when you’re looking at the states it’s legal to grow hemp in 2019 — especially since only three states in the entire country didn’t make the cut.

That said, the restrictions placed by agricultural departments at the state level can severely impact the opportunities for hemp growers.

The 2018 Farming Bill paved the way for farmers to cash in on this incredible crop. However, it’s necessary to research the laws in your state before you get your hopes up. In addition to looking at the current regulations — with so many legislatures reviewing laws regarding industrial hemp growing — you’ll want to keep an eye on what’s potentially coming down the pipeline as well.

Industrial Hemp Farming – Where Is It Legal?

The industrial hemp farming act removed the plant from the list of controlled substances. The 1937 Marihuana Tax Act ban included hemp. However, farmers grew it in locations like Kentucky during the 1950s! It was also widely grown during World War II due to its many uses, which we discuss later on.

The Bill didn’t legalize CBD, nor did it guarantee the legal operation of an industrial hemp farm in every state. It made it clear that states had to develop a plan and submit it to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Therefore, states are allowed to prohibit the growth of the plant.

The Farm Bill didn’t legalize CBD, nor did it guarantee the legal operation of an industrial hemp farm in every state.

At present, Idaho stands alone as the only American state to prohibit industrial hemp cultivation. Both Mississippi and South Dakota passed legislation in hemp’s favor in 2020. Incidentally, both states also legalized medical marijuana in November 2020. South Dakota went a step further. Recreational cannabis could be on sale in SD from 2022.

According to News America, Indiana is now one of the twenty-nine states with approved hemp licensing for commercial businesses.

Many states have submitted their plans for approval. Others have yet to do so and are happy to fall back on the Farm Bill regulations.

If you intend to grow hemp, there are plenty of considerations. Too many farmers are seduced by the potential riches that await them. Some estimates suggest one can earn $100,000 per acre. Of course, you must subtract a myriad of expenses. Nonetheless, this is less of an issue if you grow over 100 acres of high-quality hemp! In most states, up to 90% of all hemp is developed for the CBD industry. This is a shame because it is a crop with phenomenal potential.

What Are Industrial Hemp’s Uses?

The number #1 use of the crop is for the billion-dollar CBD market. It is understandable but limits the potential of this fantastic plant. If you think long and hard, you could develop a long list of useful industrial hemp products. Remember, this is a crop that once dominated the American landscape. Estimates vary, but it is believed that you can make approximately 25,000+ products from the plant!

The settlers at Jamestown in Virginia grew the crop in the 17th century; it was mandatory! Copies of the Bible were made with hemp paper, as was a draft of the Declaration of Independence. Humans used the crop for centuries with industrial hemp fiber, a particular favorite. In the early 1900s, hemp-derived cellulose was championed as a renewable and affordable raw material for plastics.

The key will be to get yourself situated in a state where it’s legal to grow hemp in 2019, and then get your hands on the right seeds and clones to ensure you have the highest quality crop come harvest time

The article also stated Indiana has started accepting hemp cultivation and processing licenses in November for the 2021 growing season. The state is offering one general hemp license and another one for agricultural hemp seed production. Applicants are also required to submit their personal address, GPS coordinates, where the hemp is located and a legal description of the property used for the hemp operation.

Many other states are also currently negotiating commercial hemp licensing plans with the U.S. Department of Agriculture as farmers increasingly seek to grow hemp for manufacturers seeking cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN) and cannbigerol (CBG) for oils, lotions, foods and beverages. With more than 25,000 uses for hemp, farming hemp for textiles, insulation, pet bedding and more are increasing at an exponential rate.

One theory posits that hemp’s ability to replace synthetic materials such as plastic and nylon was a primary reason for its prohibition. You could make the argument that hemp was a threat to certain industries. DuPont produced neoprene in 1930, for example. However, the same company didn’t invent and patent nylon until the mid to late 1930s.

Incidentally, there is disagreement over the year that nylon was patented. Some sources suggest it was 1937, pbs.org suggests it was 1935, and other sources say it was 1938.

Regardless of the year, the anti-marijuana hysteria in the United States was already at a fever pitch by the mid-1930s. Perhaps the likes of the DuPont family were heavily involved in the Marihuana Tax Act of 1937, though we’ll never know.

What we do know is that the world was robbed of an incredible resource for decades. There are thousands of uses for hemp. Perhaps one of the most important is as a replacement for plastic. Hemp plastic is an eco-friendly alternative to the carbon-based plastics we use today. The hemp version is usually recyclable and biodegradable.

Is it a viable alternative for plastic, however? Can hemp even replaceplastic?

CBD -You’re Guidebook to Growing Home Hemp 2021

With everyone on social isolation, businesses shutdown, and some mild uncertainty in the cannabis/hemp industry, what better time than now to work on your green thumb and start your own home-grow?

Growing Hemp during Staying Home Guide

Indoor or Outdoor? Now that the US has given us a guide on Hemp (see our post on the USDA) effective March 22, 2021. For those who would like to try their hand at Hemp, remember now we should follow the instruction of law. Aside from that, what is a good process to get going?

The very first thing you’ll need to do is decide if you want to grow your plants inside or outside.

Of course, indoor grown CBD flowers will be of superior quality, but it takes more work and a larger initial investment.

Choosing to grow inside also depends largely on if you have enough space to pull it off. A nice sized closet would work, where you can hook up some lights and the plants will have enough room to grow both in height and width, but be mindful of your electric use outside the growroom, as your utility bills will go up significantly.

If you plan to grow outside, you’ll want to get familiar with your gardening zone, this will help you determine when to plant your crop for best results. Gardening zones in the United States are listed as 1-9, with 1 being the coldest and 9 being the hottest. Typically, somewhere between zones 6 and 8 will be optimal, but you can grow quite a bit in zone 9 if you have an adequate watering source.

Florida Hemp

Some areas might not be suitable for growing CBD Flowers outside at all, so bear that in mind when doing your research. Another option that’s becoming increasing popular is growing CBD hemp flowers in a greenhouse. Greenhouses replicate the atmosphere of an indoor grow, to an extent, and will save you a lot of money in energy costs. They allow for year-round cultivation in a climate controlled environment where you can regulate the sunlight exposure as you wish.

If I were to choose an option, I’d personally go with the greenhouse.

Once you’ve settled on where you want to grow your plants, you’ll need to get everything set up. That starts with deciding what strain/s you want to grow. Cultivation methods for CBD hemp flowers can vary depending on the strain you’re growing. Do you want a regular strain or an autoflowering strain? Indica, sativa, or hybrid?

Any specific strains you like better than others? Let’s take a quick look at how each of these options might impact your grow-op or your final product.

Picking a Strain

We’ll start with regular strains vs autoflowering. With CBD flower plants, there are 2 main stages of the growing cycle: the vegetative stage and the flowering stage. The transition from one stage to the next requires changes in the plant’s light cycle. When growing outside, you’ll need to make sure you plant in the correct season, so your plants go into the vegetative stage when time “springs forward”.

If you’re growing inside, you’ll need different colored light bulbs to replicate the changes. With autoflowering strains, well, they switch to the flowering stage automatically without any assistance from external light sources.

These strains are typically more user-friendly and would be ideal for the novice grower, but generally speaking, the quality of the buds is not quite as good as with regular strains.  The next step is to pick an actual strain.

You’ll need to decide if you want indica, sativa, or hybrid – although let’s be honest, these days, nearly all strains are hybrids; but more on that another time. Also, do you want a specific CBD hemp flower strain or are you O.K. with something random and new? This is the easy part since it really all boils down to personal preference.

For the record, a few easy to grow strains are Blue Dream, Green Crack, and Harlequin.

Getting Set Up Seeds or Clones? Seeds have more options but much more difficult. Clones are easier to grow but can be harder to find and sketchy to transport depending on where you live.

If you choose to start from seed, the first thing you will need to do is get your plant sprouted. If you’re buying good quality seeds from a trusted seedbank, you can go ahead and put the seeds straight into the soil and let them do their thing.

If you receive some seeds and want to test their viability before putting planting them directly, you can germinate the seed by putting in a damp paper towel, in a warm place with indirect sunlight.

I use a window where there is an overhang from the roof. Direct sunlight is often too strong for germinating seeds and even for young, barely sprouted plants.

Now when it comes to actual growing equipment, that will vary based on the growing method you choose (indoor, outdoor, soil, hydro, aeroponic, etc.), or the climate you live in if you choose to grow outdoors.

Industrial Hemp Farm

That said, here are a few basic items you will likely need no matter where or how you plan on growing: Growing tent (with built in ventilation system) Lights (with different color and wattage bulbs to for the flower stage)

Soil, coco coir, or another planting medium, Filtration fixtures

Timers, Thermometer, Hydrometer  Pots and other basic gardening tools

You can get all of these items for about $500 to $750, again, depending on your geographic location as well as what exactly you need.

If you’re growing inside, you’ll need to account for the higher utility bills as well.

This all might sound a bit pricey, but keep in mind, this is just the initial investment.

Burn One ☝️ For Bernie.

The Senator and Democratic Contender said, “On my first day in office, through executive order, we will legalize marijuana in every state in this country.”

Senator Sanders Endorses Marijuana Legalization

Marijuana legalization hasn’t proved much of a differentiator among the Democratic presidential candidates vying in today’s Iowa caucuses. With a couple of exceptions, the leading contenders would all roll back the federal prohibitions that keep multistate operators like Curaleaf Holdings (ticker: CURA.Canada), Green Thumb Industries (GTII.Canada) and Trulieve Cannabis (TRUL.Canada) from U.S. stock listings—even though they sell pot only where it is legal under state law.

On Saturday, Sen. Bernie Sanders sought to stand out. At a Cedar Rapids rally, he vowed: “On my first day in office, through executive order, we will legalize marijuana in every state in this country.”

Good as that may sound for U.S. pot producers, he reserved a jab for these growing businesses. After promising to expunge the criminal records of those arrested for pot possession, Sanders promised to give industry control to minority communities that disproportionately suffered arrests and incarceration in the war on drugs.

“We will make certain that the legalized marijuana industry is not controlled by a handful of corporations,” said Sanders.

Marijuana’s criminal status under the federal Controlled Substances Act can only be changed by Congress, of course, but members of a Sanders cabinet would get the process rolling. The U.S. also has commitments under international treaties to treat cannabis commerce as illegal.

It is state law that spawned American cannabis companies, No president can directly force faster changes on the states that have yet to legalize medical or recreational sales of the stuff.

Despite these limitations, a federal pot overhaul would greatly ease the lives of multistate operators. Federal financial prohibitions have kept the federally-regulated banking and securities industries from doing business with firms like Curaleaf, Acreage Holdings (ACRG-Y.Canada) or Harvest Health & Recreation (HARV.Canada). That forced the U.S. outfits to Canada for their stock offerings.

Sanders’ latest pledge may not prove much of a distinction from his rivals in Iowa. Every leading Democrat promises to legalize weed, except Biden—who says he would decriminalize it—and Bloomberg—who would let states decide.

Some Democrats wouldn’t stop their changes to drug regulation with marijuana. Andrew Yang and Tom Steyer would decriminalize opioids. Yang would legalize psilocybin mushrooms for veterans. Pete Buttigieg would decriminalize possession of all drugs.

Is The Death Of Your Dream, A Reawakening?

Pink Sky Moonrise Over Florida   December 2019         ALL RIGHTS RESERVED

This past year has been filled with a full range of emotions. January 1, 2019. From the beginning of this year, the date of the death of my aunt,  became the catalyst for my traveling to California and from there began an adventurous ride that continues to today. During this year I have encountered many new and exciting precepts of my upcoming journey. As I reflect on this amazing pathway that I have chosen to be my roadmap to my future, I must first make state that as I am referencing myself in this writing, I cannot fully impress on, those reading this, of how my wife, Janet, has been the impetus of all my motivation and the drive for the direction my company is moving. I give all the glory to God and pray for divine interpretation. Meanwhile,  I have been taking time during the past few weeks to focus on the upcoming year 2020. My usual  attempts to plan anything have been thrown out the window. I am reinventing my goal setting, reworking my flowcharts and diagrams with the newfound knowledge and true inspiration that I have been soaking up these past 350 days. My newfound peer group is now made up of a multi-talented group of self motivated individuals, who I have drawn my courage from and fearlessness to  jump into the preverbal fire. At the end of this year, I encountered another death. This one was a catastrophic nightmare, in not only my mind, but also my company’s growth. However, I have woken up and now realize the opportunities afforded me during my sleep. Now, it is eyes wide open and the exuberance of the new days ahead. I am eternally grateful for the direction my mentors have provided me. 2020 is going to be the year of positive changes for those who live an awakened positive life.
