A Quick Guide to the Psychedelic Mushroom Boom

The majority of the psychedelics community has rarely made contact with the world of venture capital and high-growth startups.

This is dangerous because it doesn’t allow for those that work with psychedelic substances to understand what the next 10 years will bring their way… and as of right now the future doesn’t look too bright.

A Venture Capital (VC) firm, is in its simplest form just an entity that invests the money of rich folks into the companies that it believes will become the most financially valuable. There are of course other considerations for some investing groups such as: patient outcomes, environmental impact and sustainability, and general ESG methodologies. But for the most part VC firms work to provide a , financial gain,to their investors by providing cash to startups that want to grow their business fast.

Let’s say that you are a psychotherapist who’s been running their own clinic for a few years. You were trained by MAPS to do psychedelic assisted therapy and have incorporated the service into your practice. Business is booming. Everyone wants access to your transformative care.

Perhaps you want to open up a second clinic where you can hire on some more therapists with the proper training, but you don’t have the money saved up yet to open up another location.

You could wait a few years, go to a bank to get a loan, or you could seek out an investment.

If you choose to go raise money for your venture you’ll be met with a lot of questions most of which will be pointed at one thing: scale. Most investors won’t put down capital for you to just open up one additional clinic. You’ll need to describe a vision of growing fast and scaling your brand to be the most impactful, widely distributed clinic on the planet.

Why? Because investors lose money on most investments that they make. Almost all of their returns are made from the few investments that knock it out of the park. The billion dollar unicorn that can grow their money more than 100x.

None of this is to say that good companies that can generate a high return don’t exist, but it’s very difficult to find that balance. Within our current system, companies need to compete with one another. That competition plays out through cutting costs, moving quickly, and oftentimes deprioritizing people, the environment, and quality.

It’s also very difficult to prioritize long term results. Every VC firm collects a new pool of money every few years called a . Most funds only run for 7 years, 10 years on the long end. Within 10 years you need to see a company sold off or going public for you to cash out and see the fruits of your investment. A company that has a 25 year mission to revolutionize patient care, but has to suffer losses for the first 10? Not going to happen.

As I mentioned earlier, there are strategies for forming firms around values, impact, and longer term results. But it’s extremely difficult. A firm can focus on investing in B Corps, but B Corp status is very time and resource intensive to pursue. There are a few companies in the space that have done it including MAPS and The Third Wave, but it’ll be a long road before we see a meaningful percentage of psychedelics companies adopt this style of doing business.

All of us from Auryn Fund, to Field Trip, to our own Tabula Rasa Ventures are trying hard to make sure that the future of this industry reflects the incredible community that’s built it. But we need to be having more open conversations along with detailed strategies for how to do investment right.

If you read the PALA story.

Quick Guide to Psychedelic Startups

How to Raise Capital for a Psychedelic Startup: Industry Info You Need to Know

In the recent past, psychedelics were considered dangerous drugs. Today, more and more scientists recognize their medical potential. Investors are already investing in the young industry.

Psychedelic drugs have a complicated history. They had a heyday in the 1960s but then fell into disuse. Recent research has partially brought psychedelics back. Today, scientists see them as promising compounds for treating many diseases.

Given the above, it is quite fair to say that the era of the so-called psychedelic renaissance has begun. Since 2020, the number of psychedelic companies has started to increase greatly.

Let’s take a look at the reasons for the increased demand in the psychedelic industry. Learn how to raise capital dealing with this type of business.

Psychedelics Boom

Despite Covid-19 and the collapse of the economy, investors are starting to pay attention to this industry. They bet that psychedelic-derived drugs can become a real business and help millions of people. Researchers, activists, and journalists have been the driving force behind the psychedelic renaissance.

Benefits of Psychedelics

Many startup companies are developing drugs based on psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms), LSD, MDMA, and ibogaine. They are banned in the United States, except ketamine, which is also used in the development of such medicine. These companies hope to develop a psychedelic therapy treatment for a wide range of mental illnesses. They include depression, anxiety, addiction, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Medical regulators are also gradually turning toward psychedelics, as they show potential in treating depression. In 2019, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) called Usona Institute’s psilocybin program for major depressive disorder “breakthrough therapy.”

However, researchers will have a tough road to winning FDA approval.

How Medical Companies Turned to Psychedelics

In early 2020, the drug company Mind Medicine (MMEDF) went public. It received the financial backing of Kevin O’Leary and the guidance of cannabis entrepreneur Bruce Linton. In one interview, O’Leary explained his reasons for investing in psychedelics and talked about the lagging efforts to treat growing psychiatric disorders.

In 2013, Linton became a co-founder of Canopy Growth (CGC), the largest cannabis company in the U.S. He left in 2019 and later became director of Mind Medicine. The main goal of the company is similar to Compass Pathways. They plan to bring psychedelics to market and conduct research on LSD, mushrooms, and other drugs.

Investing in Psychedelics

Venture capital investors were at the centre of the psychedelic boom. In early 2020, startups in the field said they were beginning to see signs of growing investor appetite.

Venture capital firms focused on psychedelic companies soon began to appear. Insider’s list of the top 11 venture capitalists in the field shows $139.8 million invested in such startups in just a few years.

Kevin O’Leary and PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel make big bets on magic mushrooms. Their big plans for mind-altering mushrooms have nothing to do with festivals or raves but deal with biotech instead.

Negev Capital, a psychedelic medical intervention investment fund, invests in companies that are developing new drugs to treat mental disorders based on psychedelic compounds. Negev has invested in 20 psychedelic drug development companies and has more than $30mln under the management

The fund recently doubled down on its substantial investment in Small Pharma Inc, a neuropharmaceutical company specialising in developing new treatments for mental illness with a focus on depression.

Another representative of psychedelic medicine is ATAI Life Sciences. It’s a “drug discovery platform” from Germany. The company invests in research of possible uses of psychedelics and other drugs for medical purposes. As of January 2021, they had raised more than $210 million, much of it from Thiel Capital and Christian Angermayer.

ATAI Life Sciences has taken a majority stake in Recognify, which was founded by Thomas Südhof, winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine. Recognify’s aim is to develop drugs to help treat schizophrenia. The company focuses on cognitive impairments (CIAS) that interfere with verbal learning and memory. Their new drug, RL-007, although not derived from psychoactive compounds, has already undergone positive clinical trials.

Another company is Compass Pathways (CMPS), which went public in the United States back in September 2020. The British company, invested in by Thiel and Angermayer, has patented a synthetic form of psilocybin. It helps people with treatment-resistant depression.

The company launched clinical trials that involved 233 patients at several sites across Europe and North America. It is the most rigorous trial on psilocybin, which adds great weight to previous, smaller studies of the drug. In November 2018, FDA called the company’s treatment “breakthrough therapy.” This means the approval may come soon if trials are successful. Compass will start Phase 3 trials in the near future.

Cybin is a biotech company focused on the development of psychedelic therapeutics. In October 2021, it completed its 74th pre-clinical study of psychedelic compounds for potential therapeutic applications in several psychiatric disorders. Over 50 new compounds have been evaluated with the help of experienced contract research organizations.

The company seeks to build a portfolio of world-class psychedelic molecules that could become commercially viable drug candidates for both internal development and future partnerships.

The current psychedelic boom is only the beginning of the industry’s development and expansion. Considering investors’ attention to this type of medicine, more startups will emerge in the future. Active research on psychedelics has resumed in recent years, after its peak in the 1950s and 1970s. It may lead to great scientific progress and heal millions of people.

MJBizCon Kicks off in Las Vegas amid economic turmoil, hopes of Marijuana reform

MJBizCon kicks off in Las Vegas amid economic turmoil, hopes of marijuana reform

Be at the forefront of the latest cannabis scientific research. Submit a research abstract to present by Dec. 16 or register to attend the The Emerald Conference by MJBizScience, March 1-3 in San Diego.

MJBizCon, the oldest and largest trade show in the cannabis industry, officially opens Wednesday amid growing economic challenges and renewed hope that federal marijuana reform will help the industry in the wake of this month’s midterm elections.

Now in its 11th year, MJBizCon runs through Friday and features more than 1,400 exhibitors, 70-plus hours of educational content and 180 speakers.

More than 380 exhibiting companies are new to the showcase this year.

The expo hall, the largest in MJBizCon history, spans nearly 280,000 square feet on two floors of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s South Hall.

It’s where tens of thousands of cannabis industry professionals will convene for networking, startup funding, strategic partnerships, insights on regulatory reform and the political landscape and other topics.

This year’s event arrives amid another critical juncture for the industry.

Cannabis companies, like others in mainstream sectors, are laying off workers and implementing other cost-cutting measures as prices for wholesale marijuana fall and recessionary concerns rise.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has set in motion a process that could lead to revolutionary changes for federal marijuana policy.

The midterm elections, which often highlight the nation’s political polarities, provided a mixed bag of results on the marijuana front.

Among the many changes this year at MJBizCon, a new design divides the exhibition floor space into four distinct pavilions to help attendees find what they need:

  • Cultivation products and services.
  • Processing, packaging and lab services.
  • Retail and dispensary.
  • Business services.

“We can’t wait for everyone to see what’s new at MJBizCon – new exhibitors, a reorganized show floor, an outdoor patio,” said Jess Tyler, MJBiz’s senior vice president for events and sales.

“We really upped the experience this year.”

In a Wednesday highlight,

MJBiz CEO Chris Walsh

delivered his “State of the Industry and Predictions for 2023” in which he outlines the cannabis business environment and opportunities for future growth.

Other topics featured at the conference will include the recent elections, mature and emerging market difficulties and opportunities, strategies to overcome current headwinds and whether federal reform, particularly the passage of SAFE Banking Plus, is gaining momentum.

The main stage on Wednesday will feature in-depth discussions with cannabis industry leaders and successful mainstream executives.

Highlights include:

  • A fireside chat with Cookies co-founder and CEO Berner, an expert on branding and global expansion in the cannabis industry. The rapper, who recently sat down with MJBizDaily for a Q&A, will discuss how he and his brand have become influential.
  • Insights from Rhonda Kallman, a trailblazer in the alcoholic beverage industry with decades of business, branding and marketing expertise. Kallman, who was recently the subject of an MJBizDaily Q&A, founded the Boston Beer Co., producer of Sam Adams, and now runs Boston Harbor Distillery.
  • A “power panel” of cannabis business leaders including Wana Brands co-founder and CEO Nancy Whiteman; Ruben Lindo, founder of Blak Mar Farms; The Parent Co. CEO Troy Datcher; Toi Hutchison, president and CEO of Marijuana Policy Project; and Acreage Holdings CEO Peter Caldini.

Additional experiential exhibits include the return of the Hall of Flowers Experience at MJBizCon, First-Timers Open House, Innovations Product Showcase and the Exhibitor Spotlight Theater.

MJBizCon has also partnered with CannaVest to host the CannaVest Institutional Investment Conference for institutional and accredited industry investors.

Other notable breakout sessions off the main stage include:

MJBizCon also features a new scholarship program, pop-ups from Women Grow and Black Cannabis Magazine

, and networking events focused on women and Black entrepreneurs as well as other people of color. The MJBiz app and signage help attendees find women- and BIPOC-owned businesses on the expo floor.

Attendees can convene at one of two lounges, The Joint (first floor) and Elevation (second floor), to hydrate, plug in or meet up.

They can also visit The Patio at MJBizCon, a newly added outdoor gathering space to unwind, get fresh air or check out some cool experiences, including a 360 photo booth, yard games, DJs, drink options and food trucks.

The conference has a soft kickoff Tuesday with six preshow forums at the Westgate Las Vegas hotel, next to the Convention Center:

  • MJBizFinance Forum.
  • MJBiz Hemp + CBD Forum.
  • MJBiz Marketing Forum.
  • MJBizScience Symposium.
  • reMind Psychedelics Business Forum.
  • Associations Day.

More information, including registration details, speakers and session topics, is available here. Online registration remains open all week.

DEA Announces How Much Marijuana, MDMA, Psilocyn, LSD, Mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, MDA, 2-CB Can Be Produced For Research In 2023

DEA Announces How Much Marijuana, MDMA, Psilocyn, LSD, Mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, MDA, 2-CB Can Be Produced For Research In 2023

Story by Lara Goldstein

The DEA has shared its final production quotas for research drugs for 2023 and is now aiming for further manufacturing goals of several psychedelic compounds than the already substantial increases regarding 2022 initially proposed, reported Marijuana Moment.

DEA Announces How Much Marijuana, MDMA, Psilocyn, LSD, Mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, MDA, 2-CB Can Be Produced For Research In 2023© Provided by Benzinga

The compounds include marijuana, MDMA, psilocyn, LSD, mescaline, 5-MeO-DMT, MDA, and 2-CB.

The agency stated that it is “committed to ensuring an adequate and uninterrupted supply of controlled substances in order to meet the estimated legitimate medical, scientific, research, and industrial needs of the U.S., for lawful export requirements, and for the establishment and maintenance of reserve stocks.”

As such, 2023’s production quota numbers for psilocyn would go from the original 8,000 grams to 12,000 grams, 5-MeO-DMT from 6,000 to 11,000, MDMA from 8,200 to 12,000 grams, MDA from 200 to 12,000 grams, and 2-CB from 25 to 5,100 grams.

Related video: Recent data shows a decline in marijuana sales (CBS Denver)

In the case of marijuana, the DEA suggested the production of 6.7 million grams -or 14,770 pounds- for medical and scientific purposes, more than double that of 2022. Licensed cultivators can now apply to become federal marijuana suppliers under the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA.)

Several companies have already made recommendations to raise DEA’s 2023 proposed quotas in view of pre-clinical and clinical research particularly for PTSD, TRD, schizophrenia and anxiety.

The proposal also received a comment regarding the creation of “diversified categories” for production and research on psilocybin-containing fungi fruiting bodies/sclerotia/liquid culture similar to cannabis (flower), fruiting body extract (akin to cannabis extract), and psilocybin and psilocyn separately as purified compounds (akin to delta-9-THC), as well as applying that same system for mescaline and other plants, fungi and lifeforms producing these compounds.

But the agency replied stating that the suggestions “do not impact the analysis involved in establishing” the production quotas for each substance.

Nonetheless, the DEA seems to be listening to what is taking place in the psychedelics space, as it has recently backed down on banning two psychedelic compounds claimed to have scientific value as well as a separate project to list five tryptamines as Schedule I substances.

Will the Cannabis Industry Ever GET HIGHER OPPORTUNITY?

There is a perception that licensed legal cannabis businesses are essentially printing money.

Year after year, mainstream news articles tout the exponential growth of the industry, the record-breaking sales figures each 4/20 and the increasing number of states enacting or considering legalization.

However, these reports exclude how increasing competition, festering federal uncertainty, a prospering illicit market and crippling taxes and regulations chip away at profits.

In fact, due to 280E, a typical multi-state operator is paying an effective tax rate of more than 60% each year, while Amazon’s effective federal income tax rate was 6.1% in 2021.

2022 Will Be a Regulators Recognition Day to the Majority

Although the cannabis space is still growing and will only increase in size, the sad truth is a reckoning is coming.

The realities of the macroeconomic conditions impacting every other industry cannot be avoided and are an increasing drag on an already overburdened industry.

Rising inflation rates and concerns over political uncertainty are taking a toll.

And the cannabis industry has its own unique problems that keep real progress at bay:

A high taxation rate pushes many consumers away from the regulated market and to illicit dealers where products aren’t guaranteed to be tested and safe.

3rd Party Certificates Of Analysis (COA) determine what is in the sample tested. Look for the Good and the Bad. *Pesticides, Heavy Metal or Added Toxins

Falling wholesale prices and increased competition force discounting that flatten margins.

The lack of federal legislative action on banking issues continues to weigh the industry down. Forces are combining to create the industry’s first sustained downturn, which is already underway.

There have been layoffs at high-profile cannabis tech companies. Shares of some publicly-traded cannabis companies have plunged more than 70% since February 2021.

Sales are off from projected levels. And merger and acquisition activity will continue to force rightsizing.

Price wars drive down revenue; social equity efforts stall Development of industrial agricultural processes in cannabis has led to commodification of the crop, pushing wholesale prices down by 18% year-over-year.

In the meantime, increased competition is leading some less sophisticated cannabis retailers and brands to dramatically discount products, relinquishing millions in bottom-line revenue in the process.

While price compression was expected, it arrived sooner and has been more formidable than anticipated.

And there’s little chance price compression will reverse on a commodity crop.

As states expand their markets by adding licenses for more dispensaries and producers in an effort to maximize tax revenue, the problem is exacerbated.

Department of Agriculture (USDA)

More outlets equal more taxes but also increased competition which has ignited a race to the bottom in discounting.

Progressive state laws embolden the illicit market.

The cannabis industry and many recent states legalizing adult-use cannabis have made it clear that cannabis policy is also a social equity issue.

But the progress of awarding licenses to social equity applicants is stymied by the industry’s ongoing lack of financing options.

It is laudable to award 50% of adult-use cannabis licenses to social and economic equity applicants as New York requires.

However, if these businesses cannot access necessary capital to stand up an operation, they will never succeed.

Until the industry’s longstanding banking problems are resolved at the federal level, social equity efforts are bound to fail.

Federal Policy: Dead on Arrival

Like everyone else, I was hopeful 2020’s ‘Blue Wave’ was going to be beneficial for the cannabis industry. But we were all bamboozled by politicians who lied to get the job and have not followed through on their empty promises.

Even despite the watershed moment of Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer placing the full backing of his office behind cannabis legalization, midterm-election-year politics doom any real federal legislative progress this year.

As congressional minutiae around state protections and safe banking for cannabis continues, we are watching the slow-motion decimation of a powerful job-creating industry, hamstrung due to ineffective leadership that is over-regulating and overtaxing on a state level and completely disregarding and obstructing on a federal level.

President Biden ran on his support of the cannabis industry, yet continues himself to manufacture roadblocks against legalization while the country experiences an eye-popping 25% increase in federal cannabis arrests under the Biden regime.

Senator Schumer has been completely ineffective introducing legislation that overreaches and is DOA by the time it hits the floor.

While cannabis receives 92% approval at some level from bipartisan constituents, these voters’ representatives continue to work to override the will of the people.

The time to receive clear and defined guidance on banking issues from the federal government is now.

Our federal representatives must level the playing field for the cannabis industry and allow the same participation in corporate banking and taxes granted to every other regulated industry, from pharmaceuticals to the alcohol industry.

All is not lost:

What’s going right Despite the industry’s current ongoing challenges, growing pains should be considered as the natural lifecycle of a nascent industry certain to experience continued long-term growth.

Although layoffs are personally painful, eliminating redundancies and reducing costs are beneficial to a company’s health and necessary for rightsizing an organization for the long haul.

Rightsizing an organization demonstrates responsibility and accountability from senior leadership in an industry that often sees more ego-driven, inexperienced decisions.

Bottom-line: duplication and wasteful spending are just as bad in a good economy as one under pressure.

Smart reductions re-set the table for stability and long-term growth. Then it’s go-time for material progress, otherwise perhaps we need to see some change at the top.

In the end, long-term growth is the ultimate goal, particularly for an industry that is still in its infancy.

And the prospects for long-term growth are overwhelmingly positive.

In January, U.S. employment in the cannabis industry stood at nearly 429,000 full-time jobs and growing.

Even as the country went through the second year of the pandemic, the sector saw a 33% increase in new careers, creating more than 107,000 jobs thus far in 2022.

That’s about 280 new jobs per day. Of course, there will be tough decisions to be made in the near term. But industry job growth is expected to continue, especially as new markets come online.

In essence, the cannabis industry is not immune to the current economic instability impacting every other facet of the economy. But combined with the industry’s other unique challenges, this turmoil provides an opportunity to course-correct for the next stage of growth and the eventual reform at the federal level.

As cannabis industry leadership steps up to make the tough decisions, we can only hope – and demand – those political leaders do the same.

1 – Change is coming in the world of banking.

A lack of access to banking is not new news for the cannabis industry, which faces significant roadblocks in operation. But there are two potential beacons of hope for cannabis companies — the Secure and Fair Enforcement (SAFE) Banking Act and changes to the IRS Code 280E.

The SAFE Banking Act sets out to protect access to banking by members of the cannabis industry. It was passed in the House in 2019 but died in Committee. Since then there has been ongoing debate but its passage has been hindered by Republicans in the Senate. It was passed again in the House earlier in 2021 and is back at Committee stage.

There are also ongoing discussions about changes to IRS Code 280E. This specific section of the Internal Revenue Code prohibits the deduction of several business expenses on federal taxes for businesses presently engaged in trading controlled substances, like cannabis.

While these two pieces of proposed legislation are still being debated,  there are signs that momentum is building for change, and we predict that big things are coming soon.

2 – 2022 cannabis trends show that federal legalization is closer than ever.

It’s no secret that the legalization and decriminalization of cannabis are trending favorably. Even before the Presidential election of 2020, members of Congress had introduced several bills aimed at loosening federal restrictions or decriminalizing cannabis.

MORE Act

The Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, which would have decriminalized cannabis and expunged criminal records for nonviolent cannabis offenses.

STATES Act

The Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States (STATES) Act would have prohibited federal enforcement actions against cannabis conduct that is otherwise compliant with state law.

The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act

The Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act only complicated the legalization landscape even more in 2021. This comprehensive bill would significantly change how cannabis is regulated by the federal government, enable interstate commerce in cannabis, and decriminalize cannabis.

As with the banking situation, there is no clear and direct path to any of these bills becoming law. Regardless, it’s clear that Congress continues to push forward in favor of the cannabis industry.

Surprisingly, it’s not just the Democrats in Congress making moves. U.S. Republican Nancy Mace from South Carolina just introduced a new bill to decriminalize cannabis, promoting each state’s individual preference for treating cannabis. Again, while this bill is still some distance away from becoming law, this new and refreshing energy from a Republican in a red state could help thrust the ongoing debate forward.

3 – Integrated technology in cannabis is ever-evolving.

The cannabis industry is no stranger to integrated technology. To help evolve and refine the cannabis experience, we’re expecting a growth in the number of cannabis products and consumption tools that harness data and new technology emerging in the upcoming year.

From vapes that developers can routinely update to QR codes on product packaging, cannabis tech will continue to get more intelligent and innovative, on a par with all other smart household devices.

Cannabis is quickly embracing the Internet of Things, which will prove to be a benefit to producers and consumers alike. With the data this technology provides, marketers will begin to gain insight into what effects people are experiencing and how they are enjoying their cannabis.

Take, for example, the latest technology for being able to test potency from the comfort of your own home. How potent is your cannabutter? Are you tired of guessing when it comes to dosing? The Check Potency Testing Thank you for consideration.

4 – Say hello to consumption lounges.

One of 2022’s cannabis trends we’re most excited to see is the rise in the number of  consumption lounges and, as a direct result, the growing profile of cannabis in the tourism sector.

Because of the legality concerns of using cannabis in many states across the country, consumers have mostly been forced to indulge in private. But, as the market continues maturing and decriminalization gathers steam, consumers will begin pushing for more elevated experiences.

The solution to providing an elevated cannabis experience will be the introduction of consumption lounges.

Nevada has passed legislation allowing adults to eat or smoke cannabis in consumption lounges and in doing so has become the eighth state to legalize pot lounges. In mid-2022, we can expect to see the first Vegas consumption lounges opening.

While consumption lounges are mostly rarities and tend to be slow to open, they will set the stage for breaking down some of the boundaries the industry faces today. Consumption lounges will be sure to help with boosting cannabis sales, de-stigmatizing the plant, and potentially supporting social equity.

Consumption lounges will create another venue for industry leaders to connect directly with their customers. In addition, they will open up endless possibilities for experiential marketing. As consumers return to public life with the ever-present craving for novelty, this segment is primed to become even bigger post-pandemic.

As cannabis tourism continues to trend favorably, we can only anticipate seeing more growth in this area, including things like cultivation classes, cannabis-spa packages, dispensary and farm tours, and even cannabis hotels and restaurants.

5 – There will be new cannabis products to look out for.

With a new year comes the emergence of new product offerings. The cannabis flower will continue its reign as king in most markets. Again, touching on the post-pandemic market filled with consumers looking to socialize in large groups once again, we’ll see the rise of new cannabis products that accommodate this lifestyle.

We expect to see canna-beverages exploding in the next year. Innovative technologies in the cannabis industry continue to improve emulsion techniques and nanotechnology. At the same time, more and more Americans are seeking out non-alcoholic alternatives. It’s the perfect time for something like canna-beverages to enter the market, filling that void as a lower-calorie, non-hangover-inducing option.

6 – Celebrities setting the trends in investing.

A growing number of sports stars, musicians, and actors, including some of Hollywood’s biggest names, are trying their hand at investing in the cannabis industry. As cannabis continues to trend in the mainstream, many famous folks are hopping into the business. Here are just a few noteworthy celebs and their brands:

Snoop Dogg’s Leafs By Snoop

Martha Stewart’s Martha Stewart CBD

7 – Cannabis technology will make growing accessible to anyone with the time and patience’

One of the primary benefits of hydroponics is that it eliminates the guesswork from crop maintenance.

8 – Cannabinoids and psychedelics will begin to diversify.

Not surprisingly, THC and CBD will remain on top of everyone’s list, but some of the 100-plus lesser-known cannabinoids are going to start to become more and more popular.

Be on the lookout in the upcoming year for some of these less common cannabinoids:

Cannabigerol (CBG)

Cannabinol (CBN)

Tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THCP)

Tetrahydrocannabinol-O-acetate (THC-O)

Delta-8 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

These compounds, that can be used to achieve new highs and treat various conditions, will be continuously studied to determine their specific benefits.

In the world of psychedelics, cannabis is also moving mountains in terms of paving the way for the legalization of psilocybin mushrooms and other psychedelics. Using cannabis’ path as a guide, many have already started exploring the therapeutic potential of these plants, and grassroots organizers are pushing for decriminalization and legalization.

9 – Things will heat up in the kitchen with more cannabis cooking.

Cannabis is booming —so much so that this period we’re currently in is referred to as the Green Rush. Everyone is getting on board with cannabis, which is why we’re not too surprised to see it in the heart of the home, the kitchen.

It’s incredible to see how far it’s already come. Even the notable Food & Wine released an article this year titled The Food & Wine Guide to Culinary Cannabis, with everything including the basics, how to make your own cannabutter, and some drool-worthy recipes.

Don’t just take our word for it. Check out some of our top picks:

Cannabis-Infused Brioche French Toast

Cannabis-Infused Pasta with Clams and Green Chiles

Cannabis-Infused Citrus-Caramel Blondies

10 – Investment opportunities will be on the rise.

Investors are growing more confident as the cannabis industry continues moving towards federal legalization. These investors will continue to use the same tactics they have in the past for more traditional businesses but instead pour their money into cannabis brands. 2022 cannabis trends suggest that the funding drought will be over for many.

Cannabis marketing departments will be messaging not only B2B or B2C but also digging deeper into market segments and B2I. We’ll be watching cannabis founders become experts at raising capital in both maturing and newly approved markets, with more Special Purpose Acquisition Companies (SPAC) and venture capital funds getting involved in the cannabis space.

11 – Global growth of cannabis will bring broader branding and marketing efforts.

The largest and oldest trade show in the cannabis sector is MJBizCon. At this year’s conference, we are likely to see an increase in global growth with contributing countries beyond the United States, including Paraguay, Germany, and Argentina.

We are expecting to see the largest national companies in the United States start gearing up for importing and exporting. With it will come a better positioning in a future global market for cannabis.
‍

Comply Bag Technology

This growth will open up an international approach to cannabis branding and marketing and show us what it might look like as more cannabrands reach a global scale and achieve international recognition.

12 – Cannabis and wellness will become synonymous.

Cannabis isn’t the only industry that’s booming right now. With it is the wellness market, which is currently measured in the trillions of dollars. Cannabis brands are leveraging their messaging to be more wellness-centric, promoting things like personal optimization to reach new prospective consumers.
Companies can use that familiar shorthand to introduce their products and tout their benefits because consumers are fairly well versed with the language and ethos of the supplement industry. We’ll see more cannabrands educating customers that are curious about cannabis products in the upcoming year. A prime example is how they can incorporate products like concentrates or tinctures into their self-improvement, wellness, and workout routines.

Final thoughts.

So, there you have it. Thank you for the Internet’s top 12 predictions for the cannabis industry in 2022 show that there are exciting things ahead..

2022

cannabis trends are favorable as we move towards federal legalization and, with it, uncharted territories.

Cannabis Global Launches Research Program for Psychedelics Infusions

Los Angeles, California USA October 4, 2021 – Cannabis Global, Inc.  an innovation-oriented company investing in disruptive cannabis and hemp-related technologies, today announces it has launched a new research initiative to develop methods to infuse food and beverage with psychedelic compounds, such as psilocybin, psilocin, baeocystin, norbaeocystin, aeruginascin, among others, found in many species of mushrooms.

A major component of the program will be the development of new ways to infuse both the psychedelic compounds and fungi components into products to both improve bioavailability and to mask the bitter tastes of the fungus and its components.

“It is an exciting time relative to psychedelics with California beginning to collect signatures toward placing a magic mushroom legalization measure on the 2022 ballot,” commented Arman Tabatabei, chief executive of Cannabis Global.

“This new research program will capitalize on our previous infusion research program where we developed several novel techniques for cannabinoids resulting in the filing of three non-provisional and six provisional patent applications.”

Cannabis Global plans to locate a laboratory within a California jurisdiction that has passed municipal legislation that permits such research.

The Company’s efforts will be strictly for research purposes with the aim to develop techniques for infusions so that commercial activities could commence when legally permissible.

Mr. Tabatabaei continued, “We believe legalization within California of certain psychedelic products is close at hand. It is our aim to leverage what we have learned relative to cannabis food/beverage infusion into a marketable set of technologies relative to psychedelics. It’s our opinion that several of our techniques, in particular relating to our polymeric nanoparticle and emulsion infusions, will likely also apply to this potentially large future marketplace.”

About Provisional Patent Filings Under United States patent law,

a provisional application is a legal document filed in the United States Patent and Trademark Office,

that establishes an early filing date, but does not mature into an issued patent unless the applicant files a regular non-provisional patent application within one year.
